i think ultimately this is a human rights issue. despite being a prisoner, he is a human who needs medical attention. imagine the example we'd be setting if the State decides to execute someone who was once a citizen, and then sends him to his death in a sickly state

i realize that what i'm saying doesn't jive too well with the logical progression of events here, but alas, these decisions need to be scrutinized at on a fundamental level: one's right to be healthy (not to mention one's right to be alive...), especially when that person's life will be cut short due to a State action. in my opinion it can't really be summed up with "well, he's going to die anyway, right?"

personal note-- as an opponent of the capital punishment doctrine (and a law student), i'm all for having the prisoner have his life extended.

Rather than laugh at the desperation of this woman intelligent people should stop and think about what kind of country we have created that this can even happen in. This is a white woman with all the opportunity this country has reserved for her and yet she feels desperate enough to 'pull a trick like this.' Sure, cut entitlement spending and you will see more and more lot lizards like these one trying to eke out a living. When you are broke $5 is more than you had before. Obviously people here have never been that broke but millions of Amerikuns have known nothing but that kind of poverty. This is the Great Nation that we are. Right wingers should be ecstatic: she didn't have an abortion and she is one of the lauded entrepreneurs that is trying to pull herself up by her 'bra-straps' and not dependent on a government hand-out - or is it that the hand-out isn't enough? This is the result of stingy Republican policies; anti-abortion dogma which even the poorest and most incapable of raising children buy-in-to; and a declining job market and economy that has a trillion dollars of bailout for Wall Street but nothing for women who are compelled their sell their bodies for next to nothing. Dont' laugh, a woman you know may be in that very predicament. She may be your daughter who knows how cheap and stingy you and your ilk are.
