By criminal standards, Michael Rigby is quite an ambitious man. Barely legal, Rigby rose through the ranks of the Bloods to become a gang leader by the age of 21. He's also got quite a record, including his most recent arrest in February for attempted murder, among other charges.
But now, thanks to the help of family and Florida Corrections officials, Rigby can add yet another credential to his criminal curriculum vitae -- that of federal fugitive.
While Rigby was being held at the Ocseola County Jail last month, he managed to dig a hole behind his cell toilet and escape.
Of course, Rigby didn't accomplish this great feat on his own. Just last week, 28-year-old Milton Caraballo, a corrections officer, was arrested for helping the 21-year-old escape and providing him with contraband. Another 17 officers were also suspended for failing to check Rigby's cell thoroughly enough to find his after hours excavation project.
Rigby, though, still remains at large. Since he's been out, both his father and 79-year-old grandmother have been arrested for helping Rigby by providing him with safe havens as well as a get away car. Police are also assuming that his gang ties have helped him evade detection.
In an attempt to understand the machinations of the mastermind, police have stumbled across a YouTube video he posted about 2 years ago. However, after watching this, we are pretty sure it isn't Rigby's membership in Mensa that has done him right.
