• I think the question of whether or not he is a perv is subjective; He is with her now and she's 14 and he's 19...sure he's not 50 and she's not 12 but he IS a legal adult and she isn't. Also, 14 is still very young to a) be having sex and b)be in a relationship. I don't know ANY 14 year olds mature enough emotionally to handle an adult, physical relationship and I know more than a few 14 year olds (cousins, my brother is 15 and regularly has male and female friends over etc) So the question is did he want her for her looks? Does she look 18? Does she have the body of an 18 year old? Or is he just into younger girls? Maybe he's one of those guys who likes to deflower virgins. The real truth will come as he gets older. If he turns say, 30, and still likes 14 year olds, well, then we know...saying he isn't a perv cos he's 19 dating a 14 year old is simplifying it and not taking A LOT of things into account; does he have a history of dating younger girls, or has he had girlfriends his own age then happened to be attracted to a mature acting 14 year old? Or has he always liked younger girls and will he like younger girls when HE gets older? I think 19 dating 14 is creepy but I do understand what people mean when they say they dont see it that way, but like I say, you have to consider the bigger picture and his on going proclivities. Even if he was initially attracted because she looked older(which from that picture I doubt but benefit of the doubt and all that...) he then found out she was 14 and still dated, and had sex with her. He still knowingly broke the law and deserves punishment.

• Where do we begin defining sex offenders/pedophiles? Some states are more liberal than others, but when a child under 18 is kidnapped and murdered, our very being cries that if that child was raped as well......hang 'em! We don't care how old the perpetrator is!!!! As a parent do we say it is okay for little Mary or John to consent to sex with an older person? It is our job as parents to say it is not okay! We need to set boundaries and enforce them! When we as parents take on a lackadaisical attitude we give our children the impression it's fine to move on to even more dangerous behaviors.

• This would be perfectly legal and fine in Canada. Perhaps this is where they were off to?

• By law this relationship cannot be consensual. She is 14 years old! He will be charged as a sex offender.

• News: This kid was in a CONSENSUAL realationship with this girl. Not exactly the same thing at all. The case you are talking about is completely differnt. You are taking one extreme and comparing it to a case that is solely dependent on what you think about the age difference. Completely different scenario.

• Just listen to CNN now. He was a sex offender at the age of 20 and attempted rape of a 13 yr old girl. Now he has killed! On the first attempted rape just about the same age difference as in this case. He could be the next rapists. Want him living next to you????

• I agree with you Cheryl. In all probability she went with him very willingly.The punishment will most certainly not fit the crime and he will be labeled and SO for life. Our sex offender laws desparetly need to be reformed. The whole thing has gotten way out of hand. You can become an SO for life for peeing on a tree if your seen! How is that fair?

• She went with him willingly and now he will forever be labeled a sex offender. She, however, will probably go on to live a pretty normal life. In a situation like this I don't believe the punishment will fit the crime.

• Although I agree it was illegal for him to be sleeping with her due to their ages, how can we say that she was kidnapped? She could have went with him all on her own?? We do not have the full story, and we probably never will.

• The difference between this situation and brandi's is the girl is most likely under the age of consent law, which makes it against the law to have sex with her. And not only that, but he did essentially kidnap her. And, brandi's boyfriend is 17, above the age of consent laws, so its not against the law to have sex with him. There is nothing wrong with 20 and 17. There is something really wrong with someone who is technically still a child and someone who is technically an adult. No matter what their "maturity" levels were, its still against the law. I'm not saying brand him as a sexual predator, cause he might not have known how old she was. But just letting him, or her for that matter, isn't the right answer either.

• Brandi has a point. Society has to work it out. There's that +7 / by 2 rule of what ever it is., but application get dicier at the the threshold of teens. No rule is ever going to be worked out with all subcultures in this or any other nation, because certain subcultures will have different ideals. They may be more conservative & should be respected. Amish, Mennonite & other.

• Geez People. This kid is not a child rapeist. I agree that she i s abit too young for him, and he most certainly should not have run away with her; however, the are 5 years apart. He is not a pedo. If he is then so am I. I'm 20 my bf is 17. Guess i'm a child rapeist. Seriously don't overract. I'm thinking he needs a slap on the wrist, and obviously this girls parents are not ok with the scenario, pehaps he should try to move on?

• I really hope they enforce the Mann Act. After all he did cross state lines with her. If I was her mother I would put my foot where the sun don't shine. You live in my home you go by my rules. No if ands or buts. My hopes he serves time for his running. What makes him think he would not get caught. Some of the best criminals get caught. Did he think he was so smart and keep on running. What a idiot. Give him 10 years in prison. We all know when he gets in there he will be real popular. Even with her being 14 they look at him as a child rapists. He will get what he gave. Only that will be with the big boys. He will make someone a great wife.

• He seems a very bad character. I think people want to vent & emote than to really do anything. In the last month there was a story about 1,000 girls being trafficked in Ohio in 1 year? Did anyone call, email or write the congressperson? Chirp, chirp, Chirp. I thought not!
