Jeffrey and Marci Beagley, Religious Nuts, Guilty in Not Providing Dead Son with Medical Treatment

| Jeffry and Marci Beagley are members of the Followers of Christ, an Oregon religious sect known for killing its children through medical neglect |
So 10 years ago, Oregon passes a law saying religious freedom couldn't be used as a defense in not getting kids medical helped. The statute was aimed at the Followers of Christ.
But since they were nuts, members still thought Jesus preferred their kids dead. So they kept using magic oils as medicine. 16-year-old Neil died after his parents, Jeffry and Marci Beagley, failed to get him treatment for his blocked urinary tract. The blockage trapped waste in his body, leaving his organs to fail.
It wasn't the first time there had been a death in the family. Months before, the Beagley's grand-daughter, 15-month-old Ava Worthington, died from pneumonia and a blood infection that was easily treatable. Her parents, Raylene and Carl Brent Worthington, beat manslaughter charges.
But if the religious nuts haven't learned from all these dead kids, you'd expect Oregon's judicial system to at least protect them.
Not true. Judge Steven Maurer sentenced the Beagley's to just 16 months in prison, making a point to not criticize the church for it systematic murder of young ones.
Expect the dead children of Oregon to keep piling up.
For another religious nut abuse story, see Kevin and Elizabeth Schatz Beat Daughter, 7, to Death for Mispronouncing Word.

this is a f*cking outrage!! how can they get away with this? only 16 months?!?!? NOOOOOO!!! By the Gods it can't be...
Posted 03/10/2010 at 04:57:44 PM16 months? Honestly?
Posted 03/10/2010 at 04:58:13 PMWhenever I see stories like this and the one from a week or so ago about the parents that beat their daughter to death, I don't see them as "religious nuts". I see them as just plain NUTS! It just baffles my mind how people could just blindly follow someone. Have they always been this easily lead astray? Just sad all around.
Posted 03/10/2010 at 05:23:24 PMI live here in Oregon and everytime one of these nut jobs from The Followers of Christ church end up in court because of another child dieing I just want to scream... And obviously our judicial system here sucks because they all keep getting off or getting little jail time so of course they are not getting the message...
And what is wrong with these parents how can you just sit back and watch your children die... Something has really got to be wrong with you to do that....
Posted 03/10/2010 at 05:56:02 PMi totally believe in separation of church from state, but when it comes to killing, as in human life sacrifice, or blatant neglect, then it's time for the state to step in. if all it would have taken was antibiotics in either of the cases in this one family, and they failed to be humane enough to administer the meds, they have the blood of their dead children on their hands.
the state must show, not only this family, but families of these church members, that it is wrong to boldly sit by and allow a death that could easily have been prevented. it's not like a DNR (do not revive) order for someone that would require true heroic life saving measures to sustain, this is simple antibiotics for cryin' out loud!
16 months! and with overcrowding and sentences only being served half the term, they'll be out in no time at all. oregon is a liberal state, but they really need to revisit their laws regarding this.
Posted 03/10/2010 at 05:57:00 PMThat's gotta be a hell of a painful, drawn-out way to die, and the "sentence" for these murderers (because that's what they are) is absolutely outrageous. When your religious beliefs start harming others, THAT IS WHERE THE LINE SHOULD BE DRAWN. There is something truly wrong with a person who chooses to watch their child die, I don't care what their beliefs are, that's just plain evil.
Posted 03/10/2010 at 07:18:00 PMI have NEVER understood these kind of belief systems either, the whole idea of sitting back and doing NOTHING as a child/person dies is ridiculous when it is something where medical solutions CAN be found. It just is'nt possible for me to fathom, standing around la-de-da.
Posted 03/10/2010 at 07:36:41 PMI am not religious but I can understand blind faith to a point... But for a child to think that their parents know whats best and blindly be led to die is absolutely ridiculous. Why is the state letting them get away w murder?! Obviously the parents of these children dont give a shit what happens to them I hope they are manhandled in prison and get their sentence there.
Posted 03/10/2010 at 11:34:10 PMThere are so many things wrong with this article. If you people want to read accurate stories without a bunch of typos, then I suggest you go somewhere else.
Posted 03/11/2010 at 12:05:27 AMSeriously?
I been following the drama from the comments sections in the various posts. It's actually more entertaining than some of the stories.
But if you don't like this site ... or the style of writing ... GO AWAY.
Long time lurking, really enjoy the site .. haven't posted much but this crap is starting to annoy me.
Posted 03/11/2010 at 12:26:00 AMAwww, poor you.
Posted 03/11/2010 at 01:41:13 AMEh..
Posted 03/11/2010 at 06:08:25 AMI was discussing this sort of thing with my wife a while back and I had the same stance on the issue as most of you who have already posted. If the child can be easily cured by anti-biotics or some simple surgery, then it is wrong for parents to keep the child from medical help.
But then she brought up another question: What if the child was diagnosed with terminal cancer of some kind and doctors wanted to impose chemotherapy to possibly prolong the child's life for awhile? In the state in which I live, it is unlawful to reject the chemotherapy. In my book, chemotherapy itself is a controversial practice and a sketchy one at best. Is there a line to draw somewhere?
Torn: Good point. I don't think the "one size fits all" idea works.
Posted 03/11/2010 at 01:25:27 PMIt's times like these I'm glad I rejected christianity at young age and embraced the old ways.
Posted 03/11/2010 at 03:21:34 PMI have come across a post that these people were on anti-depressants. It's not really surprising. Does anyone have anymore information on this story?
Posted 03/11/2010 at 06:09:57 PM::rolls eyes::
Posted 03/11/2010 at 06:16:23 PMWhats not really suprising is that you would ask that LMAO!
Posted 03/11/2010 at 06:22:58 PMI am a Christian. Christianity doesn't call for you to be ignorant. On the contrary, it calls for you to be wise in all things, and to weigh out very important, sometimes life and death, as well as eternal things. You are being stupid. We're talking death here! These CHILDREN died! You can commit a crime and/or a sin by commission or omission. Omission is called NEGLET. These children would have lived had it not been for the NEGLECT of this family. They should have had to serve a longer sentence, so as to send a strong message to you people who put religion in place of the brain God gave you. Read the parable by Jesus, about the talents that you are going to have to give an account for. Your brain and your cognitive thinking are one of these. They are a very wonderful gift God gave you, and you people have put them on a shelf, so as to belong to a more elilte group, so you can say you have more faith in God than others. Well, look where your faith has gotten these people...these children. Don't you know that Luke, in the Bible, was one of Jesus' best friends and followers, and that he was a medical doctor??? Use your brain!!! Stop giving Christianity a black eye in the eyes of the world who needs it so badly. God uses humans to help other humans. He uses Doctors and the medical community to help and heal people everyday.
Posted 05/14/2010 at 02:29:23 PMIn Matthew 18:6 the Bible says, “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. In a more modern version it says, “But if you give them a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you'll soon wish you hadn't. You'd be better off dropped in the middle of the lake with a millstone around your neck. Doom to the world for giving these God-believing children a hard time! Hard times are inevitable, but you don't have to make it worse—and it's doomsday to you if you do.” These children had simple trust in their parents to do the most basic care that would keep them alive. Look what there trust got them. SHAME ON THE PARENTS and SHAME ON EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS THEM!
