Maria Aguilar Caught on Tape Beating Her Dog with a Shovel
The bulldog wasn't even a year old, but in its brief life it had already been to the vet a dozen times for a hip fracture, a broken leg, busted teeth and injuries to its ears. Surprisingly, no vet ever called police with suspicions of abuse...
But that changed when a Queens neighbor of 36-year-old Maria Aguilar (pictured above) saw her beating the dog on her back porch -- and recorded it by cell phone.
The video (below) doesn't seem to capture the entire attack. But it does show Aguilar chucking the dog around and smashing its head with a shovel. Cops arrived to find that it had been repeatedly beaten over the past seven months. Spike the dog survived, but he's blind in one eye and will likely have health problems the rest of her life.
Aguilar, meanwhile, is looking at a few problems over her own. She's charged with animal cruelty and criminal possession of a weapon.
