Think of Walmart as a giant magnet that summons sociopaths to its occasionally polished floors like sex offenders to Catholic school girls. That brand of creep would include 68-year-old grandpa Ralph Conone of Columbus, Ohio, who appears to have a fetish for hitting children...

Last week, police were summoned to a Columbus Walmart after a mom said Conone punched her young son in the head. As she was looking away, the grandpa snuck up on her and smacked the little kid in the back of the head. Just to make it sporting, he held keys between his fingers so it would do more damage.

The crying boy told mom what Conone had done, so she followed him out of the store and forced him come back inside. (When you're 68, it's apparently hard to resist arrest -- even when you're not even being busted by the cops.)

Conone denied doing such a thing -- until police reviewed surveillance tape that caught him in the act. It showed him punching four boys in the head that day. (See video above. The recording is pretty bad, but it's Walmart. What did you expect?)

Confronted with the evidence, Conone admitted he'd been smacking kids since January. He confessed to enjoying the thrill of knowing he was punching them with their parents only feet away.

As you may have guessed, our hero suffers from mental problems. He's reportedly a manic-depressive known for failing to take his medicine -- though punching little children isn't a customary outcrop of depression.

Either way, he's charged with assault -- along with felony accusations of being a weird old man -- and he's been ordered to stay away from kids and Walmarts.
