Mothers and doctors deserve your trust, unless of course you're reading about them here. In today's episode of Douchebags of the Week we honor alleged baby-killing mom Ashley Cox, along with her court of worthy challengers...![]()
5) Dr. Michael Sharpe
First, do no harm is the motto followed by all docs not named Michael Sharpe. And when Sharpe inflicts his damage, he takes pictures: The Tennessee pediatrician has admitted to possessing pornographic photos of a 15-year-old patient he allegedly raped.![]()
Sharpe, 64, pleaded guilty to the federal charge of having the photos on his cellphone -- a conviction that will be no help to his defense in state court for raping the same girl.
According to evidence used in the federal trial, Sharpe confessed in February 2009 to having sex with the girl, with whom he had been in contact since she was 14.
The alleged rape took place while Sharpe was practicing in northern Alabama -- just one of a number of ill-fated stops in his professional career. Sharpe has also been fired from three previous stints in various Tennessee hospitals over accusations of fondling two female patients and hitting another.
4) Dr. Daniel Lerom
Our next misadventure in health care brings us to the office of Tampa shrink Daniel Lerom. He's facing a lawsuit from a 37-year-old woman who claims she went to Lerom for psychiatric care but was treated to a Freudian adventure that lasted four months.![]()
According to her suit and a report filed by the Florida Department of Health, the woman, identified only as "HF," had been a patient of Lerom's since 1995 -- but his scope of care took a sharp turn in February 2009. That's when she claims she broke off her engagement with another man and started a course of sex therapy with Lerom that consisted of trysts at hotels, his office and home, and her condo -- sometimes every day.
At the same time, the report alleges, Lerom, 49, was also screwing the woman's insurance company, billing Blue Cross Blue Shield $1400 for their "sessions."
The fun and profit continued until May 2009, when Lerom's wife caught wind of the affair and he pulled the plug. That's when HF claims her life went into a tailspin that resulted in her being institutionalized.
The state has suspended Lerom's license, though he does not face criminal charges. HF's civil suit, however, includes a comprehensive rundown of "billable services" including malpractice, negligence, breach of duty, and inflicting emotional distress.
3) Edward Floyd
This former baggage handler at O'Hare airport is now piling up baggage of his own.![]()
Floyd, 32, has been in maximum-security lockup since September 28 awaiting trial for predatory sexual assault of a child. Those charges stem from the 2007 attacks on two children that have been linked to Floyd using DNA evidence.
Now authorities accuse Floyd of conspiring behind bars to kill the molested children and their parents.
When Cook County sheriff's investigators learned of Floyd's jailhouse plans, they sent in an undercover cop to play hit man. Floyd gave the man a letter laying out the family's address and where the children sleep.
In a recorded meeting, Floyd offered the cop $15,000 for the hits, including $7K up front. He asked that the parents be shot in the face while the children's deaths were to be "easy."
He's now charged with solicitation to commit murder and is scheduled to face a judge this week.
2) Melody Onyonyor
There will forever be debate over the value of male circumcision, but female circumcision not so much.![]()
A grim African tradition known only for its painful and dangerous complications, female genital mutilation has scarred more than 100 million women, according to the World Health Organization. Now it's claimed a victim in suburban Atlanta too: Melody Onyonyor has been charged with circumcising her own 10-month-old daughter in a crime that has astonished local cops.
They say Onyonyor, 35, surgically removed the girl's clitoris for undisclosed reasons, none of them presumably any good. The abuse was discovered by the baby's father as he was changing her diaper.
According to medical examiners, the child was determined to be healthy apart from her genital injuries. She is now in her father's custody.
Onyonyor is being held in a county jail on charges of child cruelty and genital mutilation.
1) Ashley Cox
She's a day-care worker who can't care for kids -- in fact, say investigators, she killed one.![]()
Ashley Cox is accused of murdering an infant child at the Roederer Correctional Complex in LaGrange, Kentucky.
According to their account, Cox, 20, was visiting a male inmate housed for burglary and theft on March 7. Around 11 a.m., she locked herself in a bathroom and proceeded to make a bloody mess of the place. After emerging, she told prison officials that she had had a miscarriage.
Physicians at an area hospital determined that Cox had just given birth to a full-term baby -- a revelation that sent prison officials and state troopers scrambling to find the missing infant. By the time she was discovered late that afternoon, discarded in a trash can at the prison, she was dead. The coroner determined the girl had been alive and healthy at the time of her birth only hours earlier.
Cox was arrested the next day and charged with murder and concealing the birth.
