Elvia's family believes the Norteno gang may have taken revenge after they pressed charges against a girl who punched Elvia in the face
Two week ago, 14-year-old Elvia Flores was involved in a rock throwing incident with another girl. Though details are sparse, the episode apparently ended with the girl punching Elvia in the face, so her family pressed charges.

And that may have been the wrong move.

The girl is suspected of being a member of the Norteno gang in Live Oak, California. And she wasn't happy about being arrested. Now Elvia's family believes the gang has taken revenge.

Her mom dropped her and another girl off at Live Oak High School at 8:30 in the morning on Monday. It was supposed to be Elvia's last day at school before the family moved. They were hoping to escape the violence of Live Oak.

But that's when 4-5 Hispanic men rolled up in a car, snatching Elvia and the other girl. At some point, Elvia's friend passed out and she was dumped in a field. She was found crying near a gas station by a sheriff's deputy.

The girl doesn't know what happened to her, though police are investigating whether she was sexually assaulted. Meanwhile, Elvia is nowhere to be found.

Police say someone claiming to be Elvia sent a text message to a friend after her abduction, but detectives aren't saying what that message entailed.

UPDATE: Detectives now say Elvia fled under her own will.

Detectives in Live Oak no longer believe she was abducted by pissed off gang members. According to their latest theory, they think Elvia and her friend walked away from school after being dropped off by her mom. They were then picked up by two men they knew.

Friend
Elizabeth Felix was found seven hours after the supposed abduction at a gas station 60 miles away, but there's still no sign of Elvia. However, police say numerous text have been sent from her phone -- they're just not revealing what those text say.

But it still seems that Elizabeth insists she didn't go willingly with the men. (Special thanks to reader Anakerie for the latest tip.)

UPDATE II
: Elvia Flores has been found alive and well, but details of her disappearance remain a mystery.

Elvia was discovered yesterday by an officer walking down an alley in Gridley, California. But it's still not clear what happened to her and friend Elizabeth Felix.

Police believe Elvia willingly runaway with someone described as her boyfriend. But the same may not be true of Elizabeth. She was found Monday by police crying at a gas station. At first she claimed that she and Elvia had been abducted. But by Tuesday, she changed her story, saying the two girls left with two men. She also says one of the men sexually assaulted her.

We still don't know what the real story is, but Elizabeth was taken to the hospital for a sexual assault exam, and the men may be charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors -- and perhaps more -- depending upon their ages.
