• Per articles I have read in science mags males are basically built on female chassis, which ideal weirded me out at the time I read it. • Phillie fans are notorious for acting like caged animals, (Not everyone of them). Being a Met fan I have only known harassment and threats of bodily harm directed at any visitors when at their stadium. And I've rarely seen any true confrontation towards Phillie fans(or any other visiting fan) at Yankee stadium, Shea, or Citifield like the welcome visitors get there. Not all of their fans are assholes but anyone from NY knows what to expect and it really doesn't have to be that way. This guy looks likes a fat chick with a 5 o'clock shadow. The Dad showed way restraint, and did the right thing.

• I can't claim to understand the soccer guys, John. They roam in packs and beat innocents, wreck people's bars, and generally act like punk-ass dickheads. But I've never been to Europe, so I don't really understand the phenomenon. But this kid sounds like the son of privilege. I don't know if we can take a piece of responsibility for his abuse. It's just so out of line to hassle a family at a game. What surprises me -- and here's where the society part comes in -- is that no one else in the stands took out these dickheads before it got to this point. In most games I've been to -- especially football and hockey -- the fans would have taken care of these guys themselves. And this wasn't Seattle or SF -- it was a tough guy town like Philly. I just feel bad for dad because he had to sit there and take it for the sake of his daughters and keeping his job.

• I derive this from two facts. First I have personally experienced similar behavior at a minor league hockey game years ago. Basically, my old man read them the riot act & cowed them. I would not be able to the same. Second, we constantly hear of reports of soccer hooliganism from Europe. So we have a significant proportion of the population over time that have no purpose except to being hedonistic and tribalistic. These people look forward to nothing but getting high on the substance of their choice, rooting for their team, denigrating the opposing team, and being rude to anyone that objects. He is one of the worst and he is responsible. But this is a significant percentage of our population, therefore I said said society is respo0nsible to some extent (The extent of which is debatable).
