| The Morgan family refused to be served by people of color or with accents during their lengthy stay at the Naples, Florida Ritz. |
Second, why would racists visit Florida -- one of the most diverse places in the world -- when they could have instead gone to Utah, which is whiter than a Connecticut yacht club?
And third: Since they were coming from Britain, wouldn't everyone here have an accent?
Alas, you can never reason with the complex mind of the goober, so the Ritz staff readily complied, typing a note into the computer that read "this couple is very, very prejudice." For the duration of their stay, the Morgans were only served by Grade A U.S. honkies.
That didn't sit well with Wadner Tranchant, a Haitian-American waiter with 15 years on the job. He claims Ritz bosses refused to let him serve the Morgans -- perhaps because they might have bit him, leaving him susceptible to rabies.
But Tranchant didn't see their orders as rabies prevention. He saw it as a violation of his civil rights. So he's suing his employer for violating said rights. (Read his lawsuit here.)
Obviously the right thing for the Ritz to do would be to refuse accommodations, suggesting the Morgans find more suitable digs at Salt Lake City Ritz. But this is America, where it's against the law to place morals before money. Just ask Congress.
And since swanky hotels are used to fawning over their guests -- whose demands can be both weird and imperious -- supervisors likely believed they were just dealing with another batch of entitled assholes and went about their business.
Clearly it made for a shitty situation -- especially for waiters like Tranchant. But we ask you, dear reader: Was it worthy of a lawsuit?
