| The real Jason Evers was kidnapped in 1982, then buried in the woods outside Cincinnati before his killer tried to collect a ransom |
In 1996, a man out west (pictured top) began assuming the name and identity of the dead child. He would later use Jason's Social Security number and birth certificate to get a job with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. Since he didn't have an arrest record -- meaning no finger prints were on file -- Oregon officials were none the wiser that they'd just hired a fraud.
By all accounts, he was a good employee, even serving on the advisory committee for the state Public Employees Retirement System.
But then he tried to apply for a passport and was pinched for providing fraudulent info. Police now know that he's not the real Jason Evers, but since he refuses to talk, they have no idea who he really is.
Police believe he may be from Jersey or D.C.; he has an East Coast accent and speaks street Spanish. They also think his mother is dead and his father is likely in prison. Other than that, the man remains a mystery.
But the parents of the real Jason Evers aren't happy about his duplicity. Next month the man who killed their son is up for a parole hearing. Back in 1982, Adrian Williams was sentenced to 14-50 years for the little boy's murder. He's now served 28. Jason's parents plan to petition against Williams' release. May the Gods be with them.
