• @Mark, Pigs eat all kinds of stuff. We used to feed pigs doughnuts when we were training them for hog shows. Their digestive system is very similar to ours - monogastric, same enzymes, etc. - so they are able to handle it quite well. @B Thompson - You have GOT to be kidding me. 911 cannot do jack doodley squat for a choking pig. There was a Vet already there. A vet.. AKA someone who has the degree to deal with ANIMALS. You would call a vet to come check on a man having a heart attack would you??

• I agree Mark. I do believe pets become a part of our family. I think the 911 services wouldn't have been so upset had she stated that it was a pig and not a child. They probably would have put her in touch with an emergency vet. I'm not sure about the marshmallows because they are a serious choking hazard. I won't even let my son eat them. They should cut her some slack because this is her first offense and she was probably worried about the pet she obviously loves like her very own child, and they should give her the numbers to contact in case of further situations like this. Did they used to call the fire department for cats being stuck up in trees, or is that just some sort of stupid crap they like showing on tv? I never understood it, but if 911 is used to save lives, what makes a pig any different? One has to consider though, that human lives may be at risk...so if you're using 911 for an animal, realize that while they're there helping you, a human life may be needing their services. I don't know, I'm not sure where I stand on all of this yet I guess.

• Well, I put this one step above calling 911 because the employee at the McDonald's Drive-Thru gave you only 4 Chicken Nuggets instead of five, or calling 911 because the Cable Installer is 2 hours late. It's still wrong, but there have been far worse abuses of Emergency Services. Granted, people do get overly attached to their pets to where they consider them their "children". A lot of areas consider pets of the Elderly to be the same as a "child". I think the Emergency Response Teams would have been a little more sympathetic had there not been a Vet there by the time they arrived. If she called 911 after the Vet was already there then she needs to be charged/fined/sued. If she called 911 before the Vet arrived, then I think cutting her a little slack might be permissable. However, what may I ask was she thinking feeding a pig Marshmallows?

• I find it very disturbing that this person called 911 for a pig when there are plenty of vets out there who are willing to take in emergency cases. While she had all of these medics there at her house to save her pig, someone's child could have been choking to death and these people would have been too busy to respond to that call because she misused 911's services. This is ridiculous.

• What the hell is wrong with 911 being called in to help? That's what they are there for! To help. There are a lot of "people" highlighted in this website that aren't worth a plug nickle!

• I have a question: Are all states tagged, or is Ohio special? I'm not dissing Ohio- I live here. Just amused curiosity.

• Holy crap, are people that crazy that they consider these kinds of actions reasonable? Charge her for all counts and make her pay. No one should misuse services intended for safety and care. Freaking crazy people.

• How the hell do you contact a "traveling vet service"? I've never heard of one. Anyway, poor piggy. I hope it's alright.
