Renee Pernice had just begun divorce proceedings against her husband -- Independence, Missouri fireman Shon Pernice -- when she suddenly disappeared from her home on New Year's Day in 2009. Naturally, her husband was a suspect from the start...

His story to police kept changing. And he refused to let detectives inside to examine his home. This was not the behavior of a husband worried over his wife's safety.

Police didn't have enough evidence to arrest him in Renee's disappearance, but they did have the power to squeeze him. Since then, he's been arrested for driving drunk with his kids in the car. He's been charged with threatening two neighbors. He stole a handgun from one neighbor, only to return it the next day with his apologies. He was busted for that as well.

It all came to head in January when he gave up custody of his two kids to Renee's mother, Linda Lockwood.

Yesterday, prosecutors finally indicted him for murder in Renee's disappearance. They say they have "substantial evidence" that he killed his wife. They're just not saying what that evidence is.

Meanwhile, Renee's family is still offering a $25,000 reward to anyone who can help find her or assist in a conviction in the case.
