| Since getting a job was out of the question, Patrick Fousek tried to sell his 9-month-old baby for $25 |
Two women who were approached with this everything-must-go offer decided to call the cops. "Initially, the two women thought he was joking around, but he was insistent and kept telling them 'No, I want to sell you the baby,'" police spokesman Lalo Villegas told KSBW-TV.
The women provided a description of Fousek's car, and he was tracked to a Salinas apartment. That's where cops found the parents -- and this will absolutely shock you! -- high on meth.
But the assailants' family is now circling the wagons. Someone claiming to be Fousek's brother told the station that he, not his brother, tried to sell the baby at Walmart, and it was only a joke. He also wants to make sure people know that the sale price was actually $50, not $25, because he prides himself on his bartering abilities.
"The girls knew I was kidding," said the supposed brother, who refused to give his name. "Who's going to say you want to buy a baby for $50 to strangers at a Walmart? That's preposterous."
But police believe the women's story. The baby has been placed in the state's custody, and Fousek and Tomasini have been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, attempting to abandon a child and being intoxicated on methamphetamine.

When Fousek showed up in court to answer charges of child endangerment, he was sporting a new look. It included some fashionable new stitches, black eyes, and cracked ribs.
Apparently a guy who tries to sell his baby for $25 is a degenerate even by inmate standards. When they learned about his crime on TV, police say his brothers in incarceration set upon him at the Monterey County Jail.
He's is now being segregated from the general population.
