Victoria Odom Beaten to Death with Frying Pan By 17-Year-Old Son

• Having cared for her children personally. he was a sweet boy and she was a strict but loving mother to all of her children. Unfortantlly they will all have to live without thier mother. none truly knows what other facters played a role in this horrible crime. my blessings and love goes to them all.

• It's a real shame when a mother does try to raise her children the best that she can but, in some situations, there is a bad seed that the mother cannot control or change. She'd like to but sometimes it's just impossible. The world just keeps getting worse all the time. If it's not a young person involved in a murder, then it's an older person. Is it drugs, alcohol, mental disorder or just total evil? Who are we to judge this deceased woman? She was strict? God says, "Spare the rod and spoil the child." The grandmother?...sometimes love is blind. There is such a thing as denial also and we pay the consequences for it. I believe instead of being critical of this family, we should be keeping them in our prayers.

• This happend one street over from my house, the violence that is rising in this area is ridiculous. Children stealing, stabbings, murders. It also took the police plenty of time to show up to the scene. I am sick of this violience, I am sick of what was once a good neighborhood being torn down to ruins by kids wanting to be "gang bangers" 15 year olds running the streets with pistols...Something has got to give before more innocent people die.

• Very sad situation... one of Vickie's young daughter's is in Brownies with my daughter. I have seen her pretty much everyday since our girls were in pre k. It hurts that this even happened. Not only did these kids lose their mother, they lost a brother too. My prayers are with the family.

• Thank you Sandra! I was wondering what happened to him. It said in another story (there are more than one people) they were both admitted to the hospital, and he was critical. So this was an indication that MAYBE something happened to him for him to react so violently.

• I believe it is whole Neatha, but thanks for stating the obvious! The only people who will ever know the whole story are the mom & the son, anyone with common sense would know that! I felt the people who just wanted their 2 minutes of fame said whatever they assumed. I have known this boy for over 10 years. I felt I needed to share some info on him since the news didn't report everything. They failed to mention he was stabbed numerous times & was in the hospital. Seems like that should have been included in their report. The sister was by his side in the hospital. Seems like that wouldn't have been allowed if the reports were 100% true. Many people visited him in the hospital, my family included. Larry I couldn't agree with your statement more!

• Um Neatha how about practicing what you preach? Seems like the poster before you knows more about the situation than you do. Meanwhile I like how people jump to conclusions about the grandmother's fitness to raise the children based on a one sentence quote (which as a subsequent poster says, seems to be supported by the boy's behavior. Just more proof, as if it's needed, that many people lurk around crime boards because they provide an easy forum to look down on and judge other people.

• This is a horrible situation. Nobody will ever know the exact truth. The boy was a very well mannered & calm person. He was an all A student at a middle college. He also worked as many hours as he could at McDonalds where he was about to be promoted to manager. His sisters were with him at all times. If he was playing ball at a friends they were sitting watching. In this horrible incident he was also stabbed several times. He was admitted in the hospital in critical condition. Two days later stable. Alot of the info available was from neighbors who were willing to be on tv. Alot of the stories conflict. Neighbors & grandmas. The video games possibly a story news said sisters ds games this says moms?? He was in his mothers house with the sisters/mothers games... Stolen? This is a sad story. But it's also sad tthe news put whatever anyone said without knowing for sure.

• I know it is horrible to instantly jump to thoughts of Drugs, but considering the teen had stolen mom's video games on "child rearing", which is not quite up the alley of a 17 year old boy's alley, chances are he may have stole them to pawn for Drug Money. It would also explain such a violent and deadly reaction when confronted. I'm not meaning to sound judgmental, just saying it would be a more convenient explanation. This sad story just leads to yet one more violent statistic, a teen facing the rest of their life in prison, and younger children traumatized and left without their mother who are now wards of the state and are doubtful to get the sense of security and nurture they need in a foster family. Tragic.

• Hey Russell-I believe it will go that way. I'm sure there will be claims of abuse from the mother and what not.

• 17 and he beats his mother to death with a frying pan. And doesn't sound like he just gave her one good lick with it either, it sounds like there were quite a few blows landed. But I'll bet that Mom brought the frying pan in from the kitchen intending to put a knot on his empty head and his attorneys are going to be pleading self defense and that his life was threatened. Any takers?

• Not my kind of game either,CT, but it's probably much better than playing one that involves shooting everyone who shows up on your screen.

• Ct, I thought the same thing!!! My daughter is 4 but still seems to be suffering from terrible 2's, so why in the heck would I want to play a game that even remotely resembled my life!! IF I played video games, it would be something completely different from my life!!!! This just seems so senseless. Why did the son do this? And moet, I agree with you. If the 12 year old hadn't left, whose to say it wouldn't have been a double homicide. Just tragic and senseless.

• wonder what we will hear next. Drugs, sounds to me. God help the other 2 kids. This says she had 4, they account for the 17 yr (bird brain) and 12 yr old. I hope the grandmother is backgrounded checked. Can not see her raising another round of kids. Seems she did a good job with the first bunch. But this 2nd set, she seems to have the grandma blinders on. Be interested to hear the rest. RIP to the mom.

• Besides the mom being dead, now the 12 year old will probably have to go live with the obviously clueless grandmother who thought this 17 yr old killer was a polite & quiet kid. And the circle of life continues.

• Too bad for the Mom. It's always sad when someone dies for no real reason and this was truly senseless. On to a more normal response for me - I did Google per Pete and got this -- My Little Baby gives you the opportunity to raise a baby without the real-world mess, sleepless nights, or "terrible twos." Holy crap. As a Mom currently going through the terrible twos multiplied by 2 - I will stick with playing Angry Birds on my Touch during my spare time - which is usually 5 minutes before I pass out each night. Playing a game that resembles my real life sounds pretty sh*tty.

• You mean the ones like those 'sim' type games where those parents raised a healthy online child while the real one starved?

• So the boy was polite and quiet. He politely stole video games and quietly beat his mother to death. Yeah, great kid, grandma. It's a good thing the 12 year old got away and someone called police, or else I suspect this would have been a double homicide.

• Wow. You'd have to wonder though if there was a history of abuse in the house of mother against son to provoke such an extreme reaction? Either way he killed his Mom and he'll suffer with that for the rest of his days whether he is in prison or not.
