Matthew Leone, bassist for the Chicago band Madina Lake, was on his way to meet some friends for a beer when he encountered a woman being beaten on the street by her husband. Despite being half the guy's size, Matthew intervened...

He managed to subdue the guy for a moment, allowing time to call the cops. But as Matthew's back was turned, according to brother and bandmate Nathan Leone, the guy jumped him from behind and gave him a savage beating until he was unconscious.

The man and woman then both fled the scene.

Matthew was rushed to the hospital, where doctors were forced to remove one-third of his skull to release swelling pressure on the brain. He's regained consciousness, and his status is improving by the hour.

Police were able to track down the man and woman, who belatedly filed a domestic assault complaint. It seems to 33-year-old assailant decided to turn on his wife after she showed up late coming home.

So far the dickhead's only been charged with domestic assault, but only because detectives have been unable to interview Matthew. Expect the wife beater to be loaded up with felonies as Matthew's status becomes more clear.

Unfortunately, Matthew doesn't have health insurance, and care for injuries like this usually run into the six figures. If you'd care to donate to the cause, you can do so at the River Creepers Facebook page, a fan site for the band.

In the meantime, it has been said, so it shall be written: Matthew Leone, Occupation: Man. (Special thanks to SoCalDreamer for the tip.)
