Middle School Love Triangle Ends in Stabbing, Two 14-Year-Old Girls in Prison

• Or how about they receive psychological help! We cry and complain about how children these days don't have compassion for one another...Well how about we realize that all the human race doesn't have compassion for one another! We do not know the childhood these kids have faced, so instead of charging kids as adults we should try to figure out what really made them do the things they did! Do they deserve punishment? Yes! But should they also receive help? YES!!!

• Um. Wow. I'm just speechless. I agree that those girls were stupid to do that just for a boy. But as a 16 year old I'm more appalled by these comments. I'm glad to know what you think of stereotypically of teenagers, even though some are true. I mean heck, stereotypes are based on at least some truth. But I just hope that you don't automatically prejudge every kid you meet.

• IMHO....It's lack of respect, ultimately lack of fear of authority that has come over our kids. We can't spank or slap anymore so they learn that adults can't hurt children or CPS is called. If I responded to my parents they way that I see kids today talk to their parents, I would have been hit through a wall (not that any pushishment i ever recieved would be considered abuse, I am well adjusted now because I was raised right). Somewhere along the way the paddle was lost and parent decided that they should be their kids friends. My kids don't respect their friends, I would rather them hate me and fear me and emerge from childhood with the ability to stay out of jail than for them to like me. Kids are lazy compared to any previous generation and expect that they deserve what their parent work hard to give them. New graduates expect $50k dollar a year entry positions instead of working their way up from the bottom. And at the end they wonder why they have it harder than generations of the past. The answer is not to beat your kids or even spank them (My brother could be spanked as a kid and just laugh, but ground him for a week and he got the point). Kill the TV and the computers (or at least ration and monitor their content) and make them earn that pillow they sleep on each night with housework each day.

• I have a 14yr old daughter, and let me tell you, she (and most children that age) almost seem brain damaged to me! lol, All the good that has been taught just seems to mist away. And consequences?? They know, but for some reason they seem to think that consequences don't apply to them!! I remember when she was a sweetie pie and could tell you the right's, and wrong's of actions. Oh I wish for the return to her innocence.

• no small wonder - by the time a child is 10yo they have witnessed more than 5K real, re-inacted, or fictional murders on tv and movies and news even video games our society has bred violence into its children ...and now the children are acting out all the violence they witness real or imagined and today's children are smarter and equipped with master manipulative methods ...they know if they are caught they get a slap and it all gets magically erased when they click their heels 3 times at the age of 18 for torturing they should have received life no parole to send a message to other kids who think they live above the law ...oh but what message kids today do live above the law society has made sure they do majority of children today are like drones ...void of caring or having human compassion

• @ joel: They made a girl get down on her knees slashed at her body and then stabbed her 5 times. What exactly do you think would be a fitting punishment? We aren't talking about 9 year old children here we are talking about 14 year old girls who knew damn well what happens when a person gets stabbed let alone 5 times. Kids these days need to understand that there are real consequences for their actions not just a slap on the wrist and "lets hope they get better when their 21"

• They gave two 14 year olds 18 years each? Jeesh. That's a bit much. Is this a new trend? Charging children as adults? Does the industrial prison complex make more money that way? Must be. Longer sentences I would assume would mean more tax payer dollars going into the coffers of corporations. Plus the economy is in the trash, so they need the money.

• My daughter is 10 it makes me so fearful for her teen years aside from the already present motherly anxieties.Suppose she and another girl have a arguement over some pathetic dude? What can I tell her not to worry about it? Sheesh!

• With kids owning cell phones, IPods, computers, etc., they are able to carry on a life that their parents have no clue about unless there is a constant policing of these items, which is nearly impossible. Texting makes it very easy for kids (and adults) to carry on with whatever they are up to, good and bad. When I was a teenager, we had a phone in the kitchen and that was it.

• I agree. Seems parents feel better about themselves by buying TV, Computers, Video Games and Cell phones for the kids and then not being adults and police what they are doing! unreal. Not like half this shit isn't showed on the news every day/night! The parents hear about Craigs List (maybe even use it) Murders, Myspace murders and stalking, kidnappings happen every few minutes somewhere. What, they think that their kids are not anywhere near it so why worry? I say send parents to school and get taugh of the dangers they (the parents) put their kids all the time. And the kids.... • We have taught kids for so long that anything you do will be erased when you turn 18 and the kids today live by that code. We need to start letting them know that they will be held accountable for their actions. If they do an adult crime, they will be punished as an adult.

• Hey CW, I'm still hopefully on my daughter!!!! But at least i can steer the 12 and 7 yr old (hopefully) in the right path!!! The problem is some of these boys think they are all of that and a bag of chips. They don't think with the big head (on the shoulders!) and problems ALWAYS happen!!! I say we go back to casty belts for our girls and some kind of shot for the boys.(or better yet, tie them into a knot for 9 yrs!!) and not let them "come of age" until they are 18 and OUT OF OUR HOMES!!!!! Let's face it, some boys (and girls) are raised much different then we were back in the day. I can't even imagine what would have happened to me if i did even slightly a fraction of what young girls do today! Bet i wouldn't be able to sit without a pillow for a really long time! Or worst, put into a reform school- "Girls school"! I use to hate how i was raised when i was growing up. Now i am proud of the way my mom handled me. Even though i was a nerdy bookish person, i still had a wild strick! Hey i grew up on Army bases and around Navy bases! Enuff said!!!!

• Just when i thought this world wasn't so freaked up! Two 14 yr olds. Sounds like this will show up at some point on Utube! We need to police our children (and these are children) more. They see all kinds of stupid crap on utube and all the social websites. And most likely they thought they would get slapped on the wrist at the worst. And probable figured this kids wouldn't darc them out! I'm glad they got charged as adults. They did an adult action, they must pay the price. So sad that they ruined their entire life. And once out, won't be able to get jobs or anything. So will have babies and go on welfare and such. This way we (the tax payer) will again support them further. Sounds as if this boy must have been a stud! Cripes. My 13 yr old grandson is a "stud" but he isn't "into girls" just yet. He likes his sports and band! When are girls ever going to realize that there isn't a MALE alive (besides Daddy!) that's worth this kind of attention? And unless you have a prev for a father, Daddy is the only man you can trust. Wow. And i thought my nephew was to tough on his 15 yr old daughter! (single dad) I will never question his rules again!!!

• How do you only get 17 and 18 years. This sounds like it was planned. They planned to go beat this girl up, and once inside torture. They are 14 and already trying to kill. And i'm sure prison for more of their life won't help. All around a very sad story about young lust.

• 14 and in middle school! OMG, they were 14! Geez, you have to watch out for everyone, don't you? I wish there were a way to get it through to these girls that no relationship is worth this. They are kids and kids are stupid enough to think that they will get away with something like this. Jail for 17 years/18 years for a boy who they will never see again.
