WTF is wrong with people. I have a 1-year old daughter, and this just makes my heart hurt & makes me sick to my stomach. I hope she is forced to endure the same pain she has inflicted on these children. I only pray that they are placed with a loving family who will care for them & that they are able to forget all about this "demporary womb" that calls herself a mother.

At this moment my little lad is in front of me (7) and he's such a picture of innocence and pure joy to me upstairs his Sister is getting ready to go out for some shopping and chat with her friends WHO in their right minds can look at not only any child but their own child and want to do things like that! I am a lifelong resident of the community this woman is from. My sons attend the same school and my youngest was in her daughter's class the past 2 years. This woman is not someone you would want to associate with as she is quite slovenly and withdrawn and always has a scowl on her face. I and a couple of other mother's still go up to the school to help and take snacks for birthdays and holiday parties. I remember her daughter. She was pretty in a shy way. She is one of those children that immediately wants to latch on when she meets you. You'd have to have a heart of stone to not want to adopt this poor baby and give her a bath and clean clothes and cuddle her.
My heart hurts today that school is starting in a couple of weeks and this little girl will not be worrying about multiplication tables and who her new best friend will be or what to wear on the first day of school.
Because of her mother's appearance and attitude we missed the warning bells and that breaks my heart.

How about we bring back the upside down crucifixion for this type of depravity? Even an old fashioned stoning seems too nice...

My heart hurts to read about abuse of children but even more so when it's parents who abuse their own. In addition, someone allowed this woman to care for an infant?? WTH?
I truly do believe in karma, I know it's not for everyone, but I am a patient woman when it comes to that.
I have 5 children and I must say, that there isn't a day that goes by that I don't worry about the places they visit or people that they meet, sad that we have to worry about wierdo's and pervs. I try to see the best in everyone but let's face it. Us parents have to be on our toes 100% of our children's lives. Well, I guess it appears here that these poor children actually would've been better in the hands of strangers.

Ummm... did anyone catch her last name??? I am not trying to be racist, and I know you won't belive me when I say that I too am Hispanic (Cuban to be exact). But A lot of illegal immigrants wonder why Americans are giving them the boot. I have a friend who is gay. He and his partner have been together a long time. They are stable, wonderful people. They tried to adopt a child and were turned down.
Yet this woman was allowed to have children unchecked.
It doesn't add up.

As for the webcam viewers of the abuse, you can be certain that a forensic specialist will be brought in to recover evidence from her computer, and the Web Cam Service Provider and the Internet Service Providers of everyone who had connected to view these crimes will be Subpoenaed until every party is under investigation. If law enforcement fails to see this through to the end, one could always sick 4Chan on them, as that Botnet of Hackers are always eager to sic Pedobear on deserving pedophiles such as these.

As for this mom...and I use that term loosely here...I don't know what to say. Mental illness or not doesn't excuse what she did to those poor children. Thankfully they are somewhere safer now (although according to a John Hopkins University study the rate of sexual abuse within the foster-care system is more than four times as high as in the general population; in group homes, the rate of sexual abuse is more than 28 times that of the general population...with as many as 73% of children in foster-care having suffered sexual abuse). However, despite those horrible odds, they at least have a chance now of a better life.

I don't care if they put this woman in Psychiatric Lockup or send her to Prison, so long as whatever way this goes in the Judicial System she never sees the light of day again or never gets an opportunity to harm another child.

I just want to say that pam is caucasion, I saw a comment asking.. We went to school with her in the small town of Warden, and she was always an outcast. Never really showered or took care of herself. She has a very loving family, and I bet they are devistated! Heather and other locals, thank you so much for your insight into this woman. It's good to hear details like her coming from a loving family. On the one hand, I do think certain people can create a convincing facade of "loving" if the children are brainwashed enough to normalize incest. On the other, I think there are fluke cases where parents don't abuse and do everything right, and the person turns out like this. The only thing I can add is that I think, from my experience, someone having really bad hygeine if they DO have good parenting supporting them is a sign of sexual abuse. It's like an association between your body being "dirty," and wanting to touch it or bathe it as little as possible. Some sort of sublimation self defense. It's a definite red flag of either that or some other type of general mental illness.

Mark, I'm really glad you posted those John Hopkins statistics, actually, because I was just thinking about this yesterday. And what I am about to say is going to relate to Swallow's post, too. as liberal as I am, and as many gay men and lesbians I count as friends, I actually understand why social services is still reluctant to let gay couples adopt. It's unfair to put the burden of these suspicions on people, I realize, but...don't you think that there are guys who are secretly in NAMBLA who would chomp at the bit to adopt boys if they thought their lifestyle was off the radar enough? I totally do. This really doesn't apply to women, but they are already statistically less likely to molest. I think lesbians would be equally so. And I'm not saying homosexuality has any relationship to pedophilia or that gay men are MORE likely to molest, just that if there are men trying to adopt boys, it would be very difficult to detect motives, when the statistics of males abusing males is SO high.

I think in general, supported by those statistics, many foster "parents" know exactly what they plan to do with those kids, and that's why the process is so stringent and needs to be. I've heard too many horror stories and worked with children abused by foster families. Something about the lack of blood relations triggers certain people to rationalize what they are doing, I think. Maybe they say "sure, it's TECHINCALLY incest," but it wouldn't be the end of the world if the girl got pregnant," or who knows what the hell these sick people think. I just think people need to ultimately be raising their own kids or not having them. I'm not suggesting mandating restrictions on childbirth, but approaching the problem from the perspective of better education for bad parents and at risk to be bad parents. Certainly, there are plenty of people who are unfit to raise their own children, but expecting strangers to be truly atruistic strikes me as a necessary evil after everything I've seen. I've also noticed a trend for caucasians to adopt minorities. Which, on the one hand, you might say is them being good humanitarians, but to me, it looks often like the kid is a trophy to them and it creeps me out a little. I feel that I personally would rather see a kid remain in an orphanage until a couple who are the same skin color becomes available. Partly because it seems to eliminate the objectification of the "exotic baby" that I think is a stepping stone for sexualization of them for some people, and partly because I think it will make life infinitely less awkward for the kid to not have a walking advertisement their entire life that they were adopted. Plus, it makes it a lot easier to prevent human trafficking, in my opinion. I don't really trust adoption altogether. It can obviously be a great thing, but there are aspects of it I find highly suspect, obviously. If you look at fiascos like the Boys Town thing in the 80s, that's why.

I know what you mean, Pete, it's just a personal thing based on what I've seen and experienced. You're absolutely right about adopting minority babies out, and it gets increasingly harder to EVER place kids after a certain age. It's a "lesser of two evils" situation, for me. There are plenty of success stories, but those are examples of the system working properly to profile healthy adoptive parents. Too many stories don't end up like that, and the different skin color, I personally feel, is highly likely to be a constant reminder that their own parents aren't raising them. But more importantly, it's a constant reminder to EVERYONE else to constantly bug the kid/tease them/etc. about being adopted. The last thing in the world you want as an adoptee is everyone thinking it's cool to ask you about the background on it, especially since most of the time, all you know is that your birth parents gave you up for adoption. It's just a really imperfect scenario that could be improved by a campaign to get more financially secure minorities to adopt babies of their own skin color. I think the only up side is that the love they could receive from those parents COULD make up for the other issues. But on the other hand, orphanages are full of social workers who absolutely shower those kids with love. And in some cases, there's even abuse in the institutions. But I think the screening process for hiring social workers is probably more stringent than adoptive families, as desperate as they are to place kids in homes!

Only other thing I wanted to add...perhaps it's the obviously non-liberal, non-granola types with trophy babies that should raise the flag! The ones who don't otherwise seem like they would have a humanitarian bone in their body probably are often suspicious when they're parading around with the trophy baby.

How many stories are about sex abuse of kids? They seem to never end. I can't believe this is the world we live in. When I was growing up I didn't have a care in the world, & now kids have so much to be scared of with strangers & now their own parents. What a sick person & those poor kids, what will become of them? Will they repeat the crimes that were done to them, will the cycle continue. So sad and disgusting.

@J Just for the record, I do think it needs to be pointed out that not all Foster Families are going to commit sexual abuse or physical abuse, or are in just for the money. There are a lot of wonderful Foster Families opening their homes to troubled children in need of a stable, nurturing environment. Unfortunately, for every 1 of those wonderful Foster Families, there are 3 bad ones, despite attempts to weed out those with ulterior motives.

As far as Gays and Lesbians adopting, I'm personally all for it. I know many Gay couples who have successfully adopted. However, for all the reasons you mentioned with people being suspect, each of the Gay couples I know who have adopted have adopted girls. You'd have to be pretty dense and daft to accuse a Gay couple of sexual impropriety with a female. Likewise, the two Lesbian couples I know adopted boys.

To be honest, Gays make great parents. They are attentive, generally highly educated (albeit with Liberal Arts Degrees), often in well-paying careers, and have impeccable fashion sense (okay, that last bit was a stereotype, but I haven't met a Gay guy since the 70s who didn't fit that stereotype, although I'm sure they exist).

However, as a society, we do tend to jump to conclusions about anything involving children out of the ordinary. So, I can imagine how it must be for a Gay couple if even a single father can't be seen in public with his own daughter without people calling the police and reporting their suspicions of foul-play (it's even happened to me and my daughter before).

Or for another example, I once took in 3 runaway teens who were suffering sexual and physical abuse in their home (after discussing it at length with the local Police and Children Services ahead of time to CMAWP...as since they were 16 neither CPS or the PD was going to return them to their family or take them into custody). As a single father, I was constantly being accused by strangers and even friends of having ulterior sexual motives and taking advantage of the teenage girl of the three. I had to be very careful to always have at least one person with me as a witness at all times even in my own home (not because I didn't trust her...I trusted her implicitly and even trusted her to take care of my daughter while I was at work...but because I didn't trust strangers and friends to not make baseless accusations) yet still people continued to make accusations behind my back. Thankfully it didn't take long to find two of them jobs and help get them into an apartment of their own and help the other off to college early. Knowing what I know now, at how it would put my integrity and reputation in jeopardy by helping those kids out, I would have still done it in a heartbeat nevertheless, but I wouldn't recommend doing such to anyone else unless you are willing to undergo a high amount of suspicion and scrutiny from friends, family, and strangers.

To be honest, it is probably horror stories like this news article that make our society paranoid and suspicious that everyone is a sexual predator that we scare away many of the people with truly good intentions from being Foster Parents.

Adoption is a wonderful thing! We all know there are a lot of creepers and pervs out there (thanks in part to TCR). But, we cannot loose our hope that most people are basically good. Yes, there are still a lot of good people in the world who come from all different types of persuasions, sexual and otherwise, who would love and care for adopted and foster children.
I know of a little girl from China who was left on the doorstep of a grocery store by her birth mother who is anonymous. She was adopted at 1 year of age to a family who had one biological son. When they got her she had a very flat side on her head from laying in the crib all of the time. Now, she is an amazing 7 year old who does great in school and is a fantastic dancer (ballet) and gymnast. She is smart, creative and fun. She and her brother are like two peas in a pod. She is so blessed. The father's brother and wife has adopted 4 kids from different nationalities ~ they are healthy and happy.

As a woman it is much easier to care for children without being suspected as a perv. I ran a day care two different times for about 3 years each. I LOVE children and I get high just by being around them. They are so vulnerable and trusting.

As someone who has lived in the town I was also shocked to hear that she did this. To Sarah i would like to say that just because a person looks a certain way does not forsee the actions they take. I know the family and would like to make it clear that they are a very loving and clean bunch. You can not choose the mental status of one individual and base it on the entire upbring.
