Peter Barry Lawrence is 71, wheelchair-bound, and suffering from a number of physical ailments. But he apparently doesn't have the money or wherewithal to get treatment. And that left him longing for his days in prison, where the health care was much better...

We're not sure what he did time for in the past, but we are certain he was pleased with his care.

So armed with a BB pistol, he decided to rob a downtown San Diego branch of a Chase Bank yesterday. He rolled himself into the bank, demanded his loot, then rolled away toward his nearby home.

Needless to say, it wasn't hard to track an aged man in a wheelchair. He was busted within five minutes just a few blocks away from the bank. And that suits Lawrence just fine.

He told police he robbed the bank so he can be sent to federal prison, where they have much better health care than on the outside. Which should provide advocates with a new slogan in the health care debate:

"Stop Half-Assed Bank Robberies; Vote for Universal Coverage."
