7-year-old Kyron Horman disappeared from his Portland school on June 4 following a science fair
And now they seem to be circling much closer to home.
A landscaper who worked at the Horman home says Terri approached him six months ago, offering him a large sum to kill her husband, Kaine Horman. Detectives are releasing few details on the hired hit, but the landscaper is cooperating with police. It doesn't sound like he reported the proposition when it originally occurred.
Detectives did try to get Terri to reiterate her offer on tape. On June 26, they set up a meet with Terri and the landscaper. An undercover was also there. Terri, however, shut down the conversation quickly. It doesn't sound as if anything came from the meet, since Terri has yet to be charged.
Detectives did approach Kyron's father Kaine with the landscaper's admission. He promptly filed for divorce, receiving a restraining order for him and his 18-month-old daughter.
Terri, meanwhile, has hired a prominent defense lawyer, which is usually a sure sign you're not as pure as fresh snow.
UPDATE: It seems Terri Horman has been carrying on an affair with her husband's friend.
One would think that if you truly cared about your missing 7-year-old stepson, the last thing you'd be doing is sexting your illicit lover. But according to court papers filed yesterday, Terri has been carrying on an affair with one of her husband Kaine's high school buddies. How nice.
She was caught sexting Michael Cook just days after Kaine moved out of the couple's Portland home with their infant daughter. She's also accused of sharing confidential information about Kaine's current address with Cook.
Police found hundreds of texts from Terri on Cook's phone, as well as graphic sexual photos she sent him.
None of this bodes well for Terri, who's increasingly become the main suspect in Kyron's disappearance. It now seems even her lawyer doesn't believe she has a leg to stand on -- at least in the marital aspect of the case.
Kaine has accused her of trying to abduct their little girl from a gym day care while he worked out. She won't contest the restraining order barring her from seeing her now 20-month-old daughter. She also won't contest his petition that she move out of their home. (Special thanks to SoCal Dreamer for the tip.)
Kyron's parents say DeDe Spicher has refused to cooperate with detectives and that she was missing from her job the day Kyron disappeared
Police may not be talking, but Kyron's parents are. And their latest target as a suspect in their son's disappearance is DeDe Spicher, a friend of stepmom Terri Horman.
A statement from the parents indicates that Spicher, a close friend of Terri's, has refused to answer questions from police. She's also urged others who may have information on the case to clam up around investigators. At least that's what Kyron's parents are alleging.
Reads the parents' statement: "She has not only been in close communication with Terri but has been providing Terri with support and advice that is not in the best interests of our son. Additional information provided shows that she is refusing to cooperate with law enforcement, she is also going as far as to suggest to others that may have information regarding Kyron's disappearance, not to cooperate as well."
Spicher was spotted by a witness leaving her job for about 90 minutes on the day Kyron disappeared. Another witness reported being unable to reach Spicher by phone during that time period.
Of course, leaving work for a mere 90 minutes could have been as innocent as long lunch. But it remains odd that someone wouldn't wish to cooperate in the search for a missing boy.
It's also now being reported that Terri Horman told school officials that Kyron would be gone the day he vanished because he had a doctor's appointment. This would explain the long delay in reporting Kyron missing. But since most information on the case has been speculation so far, take that for what it's worth.
Desiree Young was eight months pregnant with Kyron when her husband launched an affair with Terri Horman
Desiree, Kyron's biological mother, told NBC that she was eight months pregnant with Kyron when her husband, Kaine Horman, began having an affair with Terri. The affair would eventually break up their marriage.
"I cried solid for two months and didn't leave the bedroom because I didn't understand why she somehow equated to something that was better than me and my son," Desiree told NBC.
Kaine says the marriage was already on the rocks when the affair began, but they decided to stay together until Kyron was born.
When they divorced, Desiree was given custody of the boy. That lasted for two years until 2004, when Desiree began to encounter severe kidney problems. She gave Kaine temporary custody in order to seek medical treatment in Canada.
But her recovery was slow and the medical bills drove her finances to ruin. Because Kyron seemed to be prospering with Kaine and Terri, she granted her ex full custody.
