Dale R. Hickman and his wife Shannon are members of the Followers of Christ, an Oregon City, Oregon church that believes all illness and injury can be cured by simply having faith in God. Which means their children tend to die a lot...

Dale Hickman's baby boy struggled to live for nine hours, but neither he nor his wife called an ambulance
Over the past two and half years, three kids of church members have died because their parents refused to seek medical attention. That's exactly what happened to the Hickmans' son last September.

When Shannon gave birth to the boy, there was no one present with any sort of medical training. He was born six weeks early and weighed just three pounds. The boy was immediately in trouble. An autopsy later revealed he had staph pneumonia and other complications from arriving early, including under-developed lungs. But despite obvious trouble, no one bothered to call an ambulance.

The boy lived just 9 hours before passing away.

The Hickmans have subsequently pleaded not guilty to second-degree manslaughter. They apparently haven't realized that if God created all things, that would include medicine. He's also not the kind of guy who wants our kids to suffer agonizing deaths. But maybe that's just me.

They are scheduled for trial on November 19.
