They were driving home when they stopped by a gas station in Stevensville, Maryland. Pernell was pumping gas while smoking a stogie, and his wife complained that lit cigars and gas tend to mix in very bad ways.
But Pernell, being a shitbag, wasn't inclined to heed his wife, even though she may be the only woman in America willing to pick her husband up at the bar, which mean's she's probably a direct descendant of the Virgin Mary.
So he took the nozzle of the pump and began funneling fuel through the window, then lit the gas. Yolanda managed to get out of her seat belt and emerge from the car before it went up in flames.
Needless to say, the car exploded. Another customer managed to hit an emergency shut-off switch before the pumps and the store blew up as well, but the car was completely destroyed.
Yolanda escaped relatively unscathed. At first she refused medical treatment, but later went to the hospital for burns to her face and arms. Her dope of a husband, failing to recognize that exploding cars can blow up the guy who lit the fire too, had to be flown to a hospital in Baltimore for burns on his arms and face.
When he emerges from the burn unit, police plan to charge him with attempted murder, assault, malicious burning and being an ingrate for treating his wife like shit even though she gave him a ride home from the bar.
And while this is only speculation, we're guessing Yolanda is now on the market for a new and appreciative husband.
