Reader Recalls Case Where She Refused to Testify Against a Gangbanger

"Over a freaking Ipad? You have got to be kidding me. About 15 years ago I witnessed a guy beating the crap out of his girlfriend and I called 911 and had to ID him.

"When the court date came - of course she didn't show because it turns out he threatened to kill her - but he did and they sat him across from me in an empty court room to wait because things were backed up that day.

"The DA for the city came over to me and told me loudly what happened and why we were waiting. Before this - the guy had never seen me. He now knew my face and the area I lived in. I refused to go back to testify.

"This guy was a gang banger and even she knew better than to testify. When I told the court office why I would not be showing up - their answer was - he did what? I said, "exactly, so please do not contact me again" - and they didn't. Call me gutless if you wish, but I also am not stupid either."
