She left Eugene, Oregon on a May day in 1977, hoping to hitchhike her way to northern California to visit a friend. But when she was picked up by Cameron Hooker and his wife Janice, they had very different ideas. TruTV has the story.

Every time I see this title I end up thinking Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Seven Year old Sex Slave or Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Seven Year old Sex Slave. I dont know why.
RaVen Blackehart, I saw an episode of "American Justice" that was maybe ten years old about this case. They interviewed the victim, and she was doing well. She has a daughter and has written a book about her ordeal. Her name is Colleen Stan.
Anyone know how she's doing now?
Okay, a not so serious comment on a disturbing read... Why would anyone trust someone with the last name of Hooker? (Disclaimer: I have a friend in Oregon who's last name is Hooker, although of no relation to those in the story. We do give him mountains of grief for his surname though, all in good jest.) Now, on a serious note... Let that be a lesson to all of you to do as your grandmothers and mothers told you to do and not hitchhike!
I as well read this story sometime ago....they also weren't quite as knowledgeable about Stockholm Syndrome in which a prisioner starts to see their captor in a favorable way, basically, a mix between being brainwashed and a survival technique.
I also saw this one as well. thing is, I also saw comments on when she started to earn her bits and pieces of freedom. they were wondering why she not bolt for freedom. they pushed aside the fact that she had been brainwashed into thinking that if she did. they were not only gonna track her down. but also do something to her family. she was also made to believe that there were folks in the police that knew already what was going on. and they would send her back to them if she left.
I read this story a while back. It is extremely distrurbing that she almost seemed at home with these people. They really did a number to her thought processes. I feel for this girl and hope that he rots in prison or gets atleast punched quite a few times by other prisoners such as william reed did.
