• i can surely understand the comments and rage that people feel about this man however, i believe he was overwhelmed with the conditions at hand. i can only believe that although his best was far from good enough he truly meant his wife no harm. im sure 2 some this sounds as if i'n justifying his actions and lack of responsability im really not! i can not justify the living conditions and there just is no excuse. i feel sorry 4 his wife but i cant help but feel sorry 4 him also.they had grown children living in the home where is thier moral?

• Maggots only eat DEAD flesh. They more than likely helped keep her alive for a few more hours. The infection in the bloodstream is what killed this poor woman. Her husband is still to blame. If he'd taken care of her, she probably wouldn't have died. She would've gotten treatment, if he was a caring husband.

• FYI: maggots only eat dead tissue... apparently the dead tissue caused the infection of the blood. Gross negligence on his part. No matter, Not one person deserves this type of death. Title makes for interesting reading. As for others in the house. Hard to believe the stench of rotting flesh didn't send up alerts to something was amiss.

• I just wanted to jump in with a few observations and facts. There are two types of ffly larva - those that eat live flesh(bot flys) and those that eat dead flesh. I suspect that this woman suffered. In fact, it was an ancient means of torture to put butter on a person, bind them, and put them out on water - flys and beatles would lay eggs - said to take about a week to die. Note the age - the guy was 65 - perhaps impaired, perhaps just a low life, she was 46 - so that is a bit off as well. Any person that was in that house is a criminal. Just let their cell mates know what transpired - jail house justice is quick and commensurate with the crime....

Though it still leads many to question whether they were born evil, became evil, ( due to various unfavorable social and environmental conditions) or willfully choose to be so? No justifiable argument excuses the evil acts, but sometimes evil itself is a thing which simply exists a priori in a thing, and for whatever reason that is, blaming those born evil is like blaming a dog for barking. • Moet's right. The maggots prevented gangrene earlier by eating dead flesh. This is being used by hospitals. Something like this was used by Allied POWs at prison at the Death railway (Bridge Over the River Kwai). Was this Husband able to lift her with or without assistance. He should have applied for state aid.

• Maggots don't eat living tissue. I mean, she wasn't being eaten alive by maggots, she was rotting away from bedsores. If anything, the maggots probably prolonged her life by feasting on the dead and infected tissue. Not saying this is any less horrible, I just don't want people to get the idea that a maggot will just start munching away on healthy flesh. The fact there were so many just means she was in HORRIBLE condition... this is truly disgusting, I don't know how anyone could stand to see a living human being in that way.

• Hiya shannie and Saint! Yeah I am just taking it one day at a time. The clencher is for the last six months my brother and I took over her nightly cleaning account to pay her mortgage. Thats what you do for people that you love and that love and care for you.You take their weight and you see they are getting the care they need in the process. Anyway soooo glad to see both of you.

• Hey Illusions, I was wondering where you've been! Hope you got to enjoy the mountains, and I'm really sorry to hear about your Mother. I'm pretty familiar with RA and all that comes with it, it runs in my family and its true that it seems to come out of nowhere. I hope that there is an improvement with her. • Just got back from a White Water Rafting in the mountains and this story struck close to home. The same time I was on my trip my mom was readmitted to the hospital with a stomach ulcer that erupted. My mom is 61 and was diagnosed with Rhuematoid (sp?) Arthritis 5 years ago. Even on medications to slow things I watched an energetic on the go woman turn ancient and crippled before my eyes. Then bieng on several pain meds, a steroid, and other meds. Six months back she fell and broke a hip. It has been down hill from there. A month back hospitalized with a kidney infection and we were told that her "loopiness" came from high fevers. Then during my vacation this week an ulcer errupts in her stomach and the predisone she was on masked the symptoms to the ulcer!! We are bing told that at 61 she may be going into early dementia. She doesn't have a husband but if he left her to rot like this!!!!!! I cannot imagine doing this to someone you love. Leaving them for the maggots to feed on? Really infuriating.

• So this is how we take care of the ones we love...or really hate because they are unable to take care of themselves. Mind blowing to say the least. The husband is waste needless to say, but so are the other people in the house. Why wouldn't you speak up and tell someone? Or better yet, how could they stand the smell? It's scarey to know that people we pass by, sit by, or deal with on a daily basis are these types of people. You just never know who someone really is until this happens and they are exposed.

• wow this is insane. I'm pretty sure this guy gets the award for worst husband ever. Maybe the husband had some kind of mental illness? I really hope so anyway. As for the other people in the house, its possible that they were renters or something and lived in a separate apartment inside the house. I'm just speculating but there has to be a reason why they wouldn't have noticed that something was wrong, otherwise they should definitely be facing charges.

• Unreal how uncaring or even down right lazy,all it wouldve took is a call to athorities to say he couldnt take care of her on his own,and they wouldve set up hospice visits to where the woman wouldve at least been giving basic care.Maggots however acording to my Dr.and what Ive read will not eat living flesh,they will only eat that which is decaying,so Leah is right,some Drs. even use maggots today as treatment for infection,but that still dosnt excuse the unhuman way this woman was neglected and allowed to suffer til death.
