A.C. Cowlings could take a lesson from Theodore Ohms. The 23-year old Lynwood, Washington man's crimes don't necessarily match his reluctance to be caught, but he gave pursuing cops their money's worth in a chase that sounds ripped from a Renny Harlin movie for this week's Fugitive Watch...

It's perhaps unsurprising that Ohms' original conviction was for mephamphetamines, because his exploits suggest someone who likes a burst of adrenaline. He was actually sentenced in April to two months in jail for eliciting a prior high speed chase.

Last week, he was spotted allegedly buying an ounce of meth. Later a Snohomish County Sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over his Volkswagen Jetta for canceled plates. He already had an outstanding warrant for failing to report to his probation officer.

He was in the car with his girlfriend for the last month, Mandy Bigelow. According to her, when the sheriff attempted to pull him over, Ohms said, "I can't, I can't," and hit the accelerator. The chase reached speeds of 60 mph in a residential area whose speed limit was 25 mph, as he weaved in and out of traffic, running other drivers off the two-lane road.  At one point, he engaged in a game of chicken with another patrol car, barreling straight toward it until it veered off the road.

A sheriff's sergeant called off the pursuit because of safety concerns in the heavily trafficked area, but another deputy spotted him a short time later and recommenced the chase. Ohms allegedly reached his gun out of the car's sunroof and fired several shots at the pursuing deputy in hopes of ending the pursuit again. Bigelow grabbed the handgun from Ohms and threw it out the window. (She was, by now, beginning to doubt her taste in men.)

Ohms made his way onto I-5 before ramming into a van. There he abandoned his vehicle and ran into the nearby woods. More than two dozen officers from several police agencies engaged in the manhunt. Armed with assault rifles and police dogs, they tracked him through neighborhood backyards, disrupting at least one barbeque.

He was finally apprehended beneath a peach tree by one of the dogs, who took one of his shoes as a souvenir. He was booked on several charges including first degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and attempting to elude police offices. Needless to say, he's being held without bond.

However when he gets out, if he can get straight, a thrill-seeker like this could have a future in stunt work. He's already got something for his resume.
