Dannie Williams, Occupation: Man; Dies Shielding Stepdaughter From Man Who'd Beaten Her

They were in the backyard talking with the woman's boyfriend when someone stepped from the bushes and opened fire. The stepdaughter's boyfriend bolted. Dannie shielded the woman and tried to get her inside the house.
But as he blocked the firing path of the shooter, he was hit in the back with three shots. His stepdaughter was saved. But Dannie died from his wounds.
Police aren't releasing a motive for the murder, nor are they identifying the 29-year-old man believed to be involved in the killing. He's still on the loose, and detectives have warned the family not to let the stepdaughter return to the home, since the shooter has been spotted nearby.
But Dannie's widow, Cynthia Crawford Williams, says her husband saved her daughter's life by putting his own body in the line of fire.
