Ian Hartney, World's Dumbest Pedophile, Asks Store to Search for Missing Child Porn

But when Hartney got the computer back, he noticed that some of his pictures were missing. So he called the store again, asking a tech to search for photos he'd hidden on his hard drive. (You can see his Facebook page here.)
That's when the tech noticed that those photos were of child porn. She called the cops.
When police raided his house, they found computers, cameras and cell phones that contained an impressive trove of child porn. It seems Hartney preferred his porn to be of the homemade variety. Police found photos of some 25 different girls.
Detectives were able to trace down one local girl who'd begun to have sex with Hartney when she was just 15. She helped the cops identify six other girls in the pictures. The cops are still trying to track down the other girls.
Hartney's been charged with producing, receiving and possessing child pornography.

You may want to read the affidavit for his arrest where a grown man dressed as a clown was having sex with a 7 year old girl. And, if you are 20 and you're smart, you know it's illegal to have sex with a 15 year old. Frankly, when I was in college, I don't know any 20 years olds that wanted to date 15 year olds. It is a bit sick.

In no way do I want to make light of this, but if he was having sex w/ a 15 yr old girl when he was 16, 17 or 18 that's a lot different than if he was 47 or even 27. (In reading the story, it sounds like the relationship with the 15 yr old was over a period of time and begun well before he was 20. If anyone knows different, I'm open to correction.) Again, I don't want to make light of this and I think even taking photographs of one's age-appropriate, consensual sex partners is dicy at best. Calling a guy a pedophile for having older pictures of a girlfriend he'd been with when they were both still quite young seems overstepping things. It's certainly bad judgment on his part. On the other hand, if this guy was distributing those pictures or if he has pics of nine-year olds or something, by all means slam him!
I went out with a guy that was 20 when I was 16, my Mom didn't have a problem with it because she liked him, and trusted us both. Of course he wasn't taking naked pictures of me or any other teenage girls, that could have been an issue! lol

I'm all about age-appropriate! If he'd been in his 30s or 40s, I think wanting to crucify him would be fair. He was still a teenager himself so perhaps slimy bastard is a better term than pedophile to describe this guy.

I think you're right, Jieikobu. Though the problems begin when you have pictures of 25 different underage girls, you're now 20, and you really, really want the computer store to retrieve photos of them naked when they were still minors. I'm pretty sure the cops are gonna roust your ass for that.
15 might be age of consent for sex, but you have to 18 to have your picture taken nude (consentual or not).
I can't believe they set 18 as minimum age for nude photo consent; seems to young to me. And if some clown did that to my nieces, I'd want to kill him, but calling someone a pedophile for taking pictures of his girlfriend when they were both young and stupid is a stretch. (That said, I think the minimum half your age plus seven years rule is a relatively decent guide. If you're 20, anyone younger than 17 is too young; if you're 40, anyone under 27 is too young, etc.)
