I remember someone "complimenting" this psychotic woman and her family that she was able to keep her "weight down" with so many pregnancies...jeez, would have been nice if someone might have picked up the phone and dialed CPS and said, there's this woman home schooling all these children and she is totally psychotic, if she would have been a 15 yo minority they would have, but she was a middle class white woman, nurse, with a husband that worked at NASA...all of the so called professionals that saw Yates in the time leading up to this commented on how sick she was but no one called CPS...that might not have stopped this from happening but don't think Rusty would have liked them hanging around and maybe the family would have started staying over there 24/7 so they could keep their kids instead of just dropping in to check on them...one of the saddest most horrible ever will never forget in Houston when that story broke at first no one could believe it was real
Whoever is bringing up serial killers having sex with dead body parts....this story has nothing to do with it. Ms. Yates was not a serial killer but incredibly nuts and/or on numerous psych meds, and her husband rolled the dice on this one.
I'm not blaming the husband but I would hope that if anyone's husband or wife repeatedly stated they wanted to "send their kids to heaven" and was hospitalized and sucidal that they would err on the side of caution. I know I would. But he's prob. got a lot of guilt so I wouldn't want to say anything bad about him. Not his fault either. Just very sad.

With serial killers the public want him to be raped in prison, beat in prison, or death penalty. When the possibility of mental illness is explored, the public don't care and still want him raped and beat and executed.
Interestingly when a mother murders her children and mental illness is a possibility, the public don't demand that she be raped in prison. Or beat. Or executed. Instead they call her "poor woman" and want her to get "help", or in cases like this they want the innocent husband to be punished.
Your question raises a lot more questions about the fickle public's motives when they voice their opinions on murderous crimes.

This, and man others like it, as in the case with Dr. Stephen Wolf who has been found not guilty of killing his son by reason of anti-depressant induced insanity has only to do with the corruption of the for profit mental health industry and the FDA. There was another man who killed his son in Ontario found not guilty due to anti-depressant induced insanity, but I could not find him today. Also, our poor treatment and monitoring of the mentally ill and foolishly relying on bogus drugs as a main course of treatment.
Andrea was taking twice the recommended dose of Effexor at the time. This drug now has "homicidal ideation" as a warning. It did not carry that at the time Andrea was taking it.
Her husband is obviously a dumb ass b/c the doctor and Andrea's mother both urged him not to let her around the children alone. She previously made one attempt to drown the children and then did not go through with it after filling the tub. She continuously stated that she wanted her kids to be in "heaven" to her whole family and doctor.

From what I have read also, she was on various meds off and on (as well as hospitalized) for worsening depression and psychosis, but (depending on the time frame) stopped taking them or was discharged. She should not have had any more children after the first time she was diagnosed, but yes, the "no birth control/religion " part did come into it. Rusty Yates came off like kind of a dick every time he opened his mouth, which I think is one of the reasons people don't like him.
Last I heard, Rusty Yates and Andrea got a mutual divorce, and he has remarried, to a woman he met at his church, I think.

It's hard to look at pictures of children that have been murdered or abused...so fucking heartbreaking...You see them smiling and playing and then it hits you that they didn't get to keep on laughing and playing because they were robbed of the opportunity by the person that's supposed to protect them...makes me fucking sick that anyone could do this, especially to their own children...and I could give a fuck that she was mental...she should be dead for what she did...and whatever happened to the hubby? Did he get to move on and make himself a new family?
I agree the husband should've been charged with something. If not for him being so careless and off in his own world, leaving her with these kids and continuing to get her pregnant knowing she was mentally unstable...those kids would all still be alive. That being said, the kids are obviously the ones who suffered and were murdered by their own "mother"...I have NO sympathy for this sorry excuse for a woman. I feel furious when I see her/hear about her...there is NO excuse, no reason, no justifying what she did. She should've been helped, someone should've interfered before it ever got to this point...but she did what she did, and there's no forgiving that. I couldn't care less about Andrea Yates...she can burn in hell for the horrible things she did to those children. :( I don't feel a mental illness is a free pass to harm and kill whoever you want...you still have to answer and be punished if you inflict damage on others.

I agreed then and I agree now. From what I've read he was fully aware of her mental instability. He was even told by her doctor that she shouldn't have children, but apparently his "religion" didn't allow birth control. I say "religion" because it seemed disreputable and because I don't agree with anything that insists women are inferior. I feel sorry for the children she murdered, but I have sympathy for her as well.
I didn't read this story because I had read a book about her a long time ago, I do remember reading that the police had contemplated bringing charges up on him too.
I see a woman who was in desperate need of help..and did not know where to turn to or dared to. many folks with mental illnesses refuse to get help due to the stigma attached to mental illnesses.
100 percent right, Sangelia and I totally get it, maybe I sounded a little flippant when I said the blah part. I had sympathy for her a long time ago, but reading some of the aftermath that she caused still irks me. I don't want to dislike her or be unsympathetic towards her but I just am.
