| Vanya Samkovareva and Ralitsa Dzhambazova came to America for the summer to work and study English. Instead that got a lesson in our unique brand of douchebaggery. |
When they originally moved into their apartment, they paid no mind to the small mechanisms on the ceiling of the bathroom, living room and bedrooms. They seemed to be smoke detectors or motion censors for the alarm system.
But then a former roommate told them they were hidden cameras. They followed the cable from a camera in a bedroom to a locked closet. Then they busted off the lock, only to find the cables ran to a closed-circuit TV that was hooked to a Wi-Fi router. Someone appeared to be watching them remotely.
Such cases are usually linked to a pervert apartment owner or building manager. But that doesn't seem to be true in this incident. Police aren't sure who put the cameras there, or if they were being used for private stalking or online as voyeur videos.
Detectives hope to trace the perv through the equipments' manufacturer and serial numbers.
If the perv only used the cameras for private douchebaggery, he'll be able to skate with a misdemeanor under Florida law. But if the images were used over the internet, the penalty is hiked to a felony.
