Instead they caught Lopez.
When the photos came to light, he was put on three weeks of paid administrative leave while being investigated. We're sorry to hear he's now been fired.
The state won't say whether he was on the job at the time, which means he was. They also won't talk about his relationship with the woman featured in the photos, which means she wasn't his wife. Now his eight-year career is coming to an end.
Which is kind of sad, since Captain Bonetron was actually good at the job. Two years ago, he was named New Mexico's police officer of the year.

Who cares if he's one of the best officers? Every job has rules of what employees cannot do, and it's just common sense not to fuck on the job. I work in a nursing home, and if I was hanging out in one of the residents' rooms, using my phone....I'd be fired. Even if the resident was napping, or in the dining room eating, I'd still be fired. Same thing, if I was having sex, I would definitely be fired. First of all, it's inappropriate, and secondly, people could accuse me of neglecting the residents. If the scanner radio tried to get ahold of the cop, he's not gonna pay attention 'cause he's busy. Why shouldn't he receive consequences?

Troopers don't have a union in New Mexico?? The punishment should not be so extreme, so very financially devastating as losing your job, especially in this economy. If he actually is one of their best officers, and this is not one in a long line of screw-ups, it is absolutely stupid to fire him over this.
Also, I've only seen reports that he is not married to the woman on the hood and NONE that he is married to anybody else.
Also, I've seen photos of 3 different men who are supposed to be Trooper Bert Lopez...one died several years ago, one is the guy in the hat and one definitely is a hottie. Anyway, NM Sheriffs Dept should not have disclosed his name and should not have fired him; you'd think he was killing somebody on the hood of that car.

Ok, I've already said my piece with this on the original story, but I wanted to add something. In the end, who cares really if he was on the job or cheating with his wife. I mean, it's not right, but he could have been doing so much worse. What he did wasn't exactly criminal. We didn't fire Clinton for spilling his jizz, or any of the other politicians that have committed adultery. Yet we still give them money through lobbying and taxes. This guy, while what he did wasn't exactly noble, isn't any worse off than the office romance that takes it to the janitor's closet.
