This is another story aired by the same news station:
MinnPost | Asian American Journalists Association | City Pages Wednesday morning, WCCO-TV News Director Michael Caputa sent staff a memo in which he defended most of the reporting in a much-maligned story that suggested a market in Chinatown was selling dog meat from Minnesota. When reporter James Schugel called the market, “the person we spoke to said he didn’t speak English, but then gave an interview in English,” Caputa writes in the memo, which was obtained by MinnPost’s David Brauer. “We asked him if the market sold dogs, and we believed he answered in the affirmative. We now believe that he said, ‘Duck.’ ” Until Caputa’s memo, the station hadn’t explained what happened with the story, which has been taken offline. Tuesday, AAJA sent a letter to a CBS vice president for diversity saying that the incident shows why it’s important to have a diverse newsroom. The story spurred New York state inspectors to raid the market, but they didn’t find any dog meat.
Is this a real news station or is it like The Onion? I think it's Steven Colbert's station.
This is a real news station and the dogs in that story sexually harrassed me in Chinese. Or was it the ducks?
Wasn't this originially filmed live on a traffic cam? Did the new station decide to run it as part of the news or did people just get a hold of it and send it around hte internet? I couldn't tell by the story, it was so chopped up.
Yes, I agree, why are they looking for the cars that hit her when she did this on purpose. That is stupid. Do they know who the woman is, did she escape from a treatment facility?
"Police are looking for the multiple cars that hit her."...umm why!?!...This is what she wanted, eh?...
Yeah, I don't understand that at all. While they should have stopped afterward, they really had no control over the fact that they ended this woman's life. While it was wrong not to stop, I could see where the shock of what just happened (and, possibly, the fear of prosecution) may have prevented them from doing so. To compound that trauma with criminal punishment, really just seems wrong to me.
they most likely are looking for witness information for their reports, but I can see your point... hopefully when the shock wore off they went and talked to the authorities
As well as that was from the looks of it being morning rush hour. And that streatch is not far north from where it goes past downtown Minneapolis. Once I had the intersection where the camera was located. It was easy. Though it looks like from the curving. That it is closer to some kind of tunnel that I-94 apparently goes through.
Perhaps on a small road or if you aren't going fast you could have dodged her, however, on an interstate, I don't believe any of the drivers would have had reaction time, especially the drivers behind the initial car that struck her.
First and foremost, that was way out of line on the tv stations part.. omg, I can't imagine what viewers reactions were, I saw elsewhere that of course there is outrage, no doubt.
I'm sure some will call me callus about this however, this woman chose to take her own life, for whatever reason, that is absolutely her choice, I do understand when a person's quality of life is diminished to the point of suicide, wish I were able to do something about it, truly. But what really chaps my backside about this whole thing, is the fact that she involved innocent people in her situation, omg, those poor folks that actually hit this woman, can you imagine the anguish they will deal with the rest of their lives? Nightmares, I am pretty certain I would need therapy...omg, were children in the cars and witness, I have seen what it looks like for a women to fly out thru her windshield up 10' in the air in an accident, can still see it and I only witnessed the accident occur. Where would I begin at seeing something like this happen on the news, who knows how many people forced to witness her actions. Just what did these travelers do to deserve to be put into that situation, if a person has just got to end their life, fine, why must it always seem to involve other people, people that had absolutely nothing to do with what brought them to their personal life choice decision!! You want to kill yourself, thats fine, would prefer you stick around, however, again your choice.
And what of this woman's family, to know that this has been broadcast to any and all to witness. Was her death not enough trama to them already, if they were even aware, to now have to relive this and deal with it the rest of their lives. ::smhs::
I didn't actually watch it, as I was too afraid I'd want to 'unsee' it. What pisses me off about it is that they aired it at noon, when children could have been watching. I know that that's not a huge possibility, as their interest often lies elsewhere, but there have been dozens of times when Mike or I was watching the news and one of my kids breezed through and sat for a moment to check out what we're watching, and if they'd chanced to see this kind of shit, I would have been infuriated. They're not even allowed to watch 'Twilight,' much to the oldest two kids dismay, the thought that I put in all this effort to moniter what they watch only to have harmful material aired on the news would really piss me off.
I agree with you on the suicide issue, and would only add that unless the person is terminal, it is probably one of the most selfish acts a person can commit, in my opinion. People who do it, give little or no thought as to how it will effect their loved ones, and thats not even taking into account that this chick forced others to pull the trigger, which only compounds her thoughtlessness.
Yeah you're right about that, but shit happens kids stay home sick, I know it's probably unreasonable for me to be pissed about it, particularly because my children weren't involved, sometimes weird things set me off.
What in God's good name is wrong with this? Why on earth would anyone find this bit of news worthy of posting? I think our better bet to be to televise executions. Maybe that's a better message to show the criminals what they could be in store for. To actually publish a suicde for all to see. That's just morbid!!! I see that station has no mercy for mankind.
News worthy?...News is news and guess what?...you read it and posted on it.
Must have been news worthy enough.
You chose to read it my man..
Beep beep
Maybe they are hoping that a relative might come forth to identify the poor lady. Especially if the relative called her home and did not get a answer. She did not have any ID on her. So thus they are at a loss on how to find out who she is. As well as find out who were the ones who did run over her. Bet they are hoping that the ones who hit her. That someone might rat them out.
