• Well said. Sentencing in our country has little to do with the offenders. It has a LOT to do with politicians that want to curry favor at election time with a get tough on crime stance.

• A crime is a crime whether is has to do with hate or not.  I mean, don't most all crimes require hatred of some sort to be carried out?  Even if its hatred of themselves.  Hate is just so vague a term, loosely applied in some cases and very hard to prove. This woman was brutalized beyond belief and I don't really care why these pigs did it.  Because they had a ghetto upbringing and hated whites....so what? They should still get the max sentence just as they should if they had gang raped a black ghetto neighbor.   That this occurred in So. Africa only proves [what most of us already know] that the US isn't the only territory that has racial issues still looming. I am not disputing your points in their entirety.  They are valid. I have just come to the conclusion that "hate crimes" in and of themselves are over rated.  Our Legislatures spend so much time upping the ante on crimes when it isn't even necessary.  These murderers and rapists deserve to die for what they have done to others or at least spend the rest of their lousy lives in prison....whether it was a "hate crime" or not.

But the words are there right after the heading "Apologized" I may have been off on a couple of my facts in my above statement, especially since I don't remember anything about them getting life sentences (if that had been the case I wouldn't have bitched about it not being considered a hate crime) so in that case I apologize for my outburst, but I just wanted to demonstrate the complete uneven distribution of hate crime charges.

• So....A bunch of "white supremascists" beat up a black man, and it's a hate crime.   A gang of 6 black youths savagely beat and rape a white woman literally because "they wanted a white bitch" (I will link you all to the article that quote is from if you don't believe me) and it's NOT a hate crime? If all men are equal, all men should be treated equal under the law.  It shouldn't matter what colour you are, if you're crime is motivated by the colour of your victim's skin, it's a hate crime.  EVERY colour of person is committing a hate crime if it is motivated by the colour or religion or sexual orientation of their victim. 3 white kids beating a black man, 5 black "youths" raping a woman because they decided they deserved a white woman, 2 Jews jacking up the price for East Indians, those are ALL hate crimes. Judges, Juries, and Lawyers ought to wise up to that fact.  

• With gang crimes, most are done by Black gangs against other black gangs or black bystanders.  Also Latino gangs do crimes against Latino gangs.  Assault&battery + murder.  But they usu. don't make national news.  This case is news because it's strange.  TCR job is to look for strange crimes.

• Simple minded gang brutality. Happens everyday with all the races, however, all should be punished who commit this type crime. It's racial, it's crude and it's just plain mean. Put em away, not like they'll get hurt because the AB will clique em right up just as if any other prison gang would snatch their same race for the same STUPID reasoning. Gangers are pussies!!!

• Richard Connelly, Matthew Wayne Shepard should be called Methew Wayne Shepard.  We hear so much about his killing but what gets less talk is what I wrote in July 2011-that MW Shepard committed assault&battery on Cody bartender who decked him.  Next day MW Shepard made up story of being homosexually gang raped which was disproven.  MW Shepard also used Meth-see 20/20 interview. With this case, the 3 men must be punished for assault&battery, but this is news because it's strange.  Most people aren't committing hate crimes against Blacks.  They make news when it happens because it's strange-just like James Byrd case.   They should punish them for assault&battery with the more serious injuries getting more punishment.
