• Pets do add a lot. Especially after your children leave the nest.  Since this one is old we'll probably wait til she passes to get another.  Not sure how she would respond to it and I don't want to risk upsetting her.

• thx sen and virgo ...  the joy of her was totally worth the pain of losing her, that's for sure.  and we've gone back and forth ever since we knew she was sick about whether or not we wanted to get another one .... but both of us lean more and more toward getting another one.   having a critter to take care of, talk to, love on, really adds a lot to the household, and we're missing it.

• So sorry for you. I lost one of my elderly dogs in November. Had him over a decade.  I was devastated even though he'd been going down hill for several weeks.  I still have his litter mate and while she has a few health issues as well she is still spry except for an occasional bad day here and there.  I haven't been able to bring myself to get another one.

• OH SHADE..........I'm so sorry hun......That is the hardest thing to get through.It's been 3 yrs since we had to put my Pup down and there is still days I remember something he used to do and cry. :( She was lucky to have a mommy like you.I know she had a GREAT life with you in it. xoxo

• thanks both of you.  i'm definitely sad, as is my husband.  but i feel fortunate that we had some warning, so i had several weeks to get used to the idea, give her extra love, cry a lot, and prepare myself for the inevitable.  i miss her, but know that she was in increasing pain, and the thought of her suffering tortured me far, far worse than the thought of her passing.  on the up side, it has been unseasonably warm here, and over 50 today, so i even cooked dinner on the grill.

• Shade, So sorry.  I know how bad that is.  The day after I put my dog to sleep was the worst day of my life.  I felt like I was made of lead, literally.   Now you have to get a new puppy or you will never be normal again.  (Do not get a min. pin.)  I sincerely hope you feel better.  That sucks.

• hey my2 .... being kind of lazy, watching "The Parent Trap" for about the billionth time.  Bad news is I finally had to put my dog to sleep yesterday.  :(  So I'm kind of bummed out, missing her.  Good new is that the vet was taken aback when she saw her, and said that had I not brought her in, she probably would have died over the weekend anyway.  So if it had to happen, I'm glad it happened the way it did.  Hope things are more pleasant in your neck of the woods ....
