So, painting with your broad brush, every person locked up has no rights? Kind of middle ages isn't it? Someone in jail for DUI shouldn't be allowed to vote. Someone locked up for shoplifting shouldn't be allowed the freedom of speech, education, ownership? Two million of your fellow citizens are locked up and you don't want them to have anything? Over 90% of them will be released someday. Deny them their basic rights and then let them move in next door to you. It's easy to take the tough-guy stance on this, but reality can be an eye-opener.
Bringing suit is most certainly a priviledge when you're incarcerated. In prison, you should have no, and I mean "no" citizenship rights.
This is but one of the glaring reasons why prisons should not be a for profit venture. The prison industrial complex has been created to offset unemployment in other sectors of business. It's ridiculous that our country has, by far, the largest incarceration rate in the world. Two million and growing every day. Bringing suit is not a "privilege". Inmates are in prison for crime convictions. That's supposed to be the punishment, not whatever else employees and management can dream up. Sending prisoners to other states because your state has filled every possible cell should speak volumes.
Well duh. EVERYthing can be prevented when you have the luxury of hindsight.
I personnally believe no one should be allowed to bring suit. The guards are paid for their services and insured extremely well and as for the inmates...Well, they're inmates and should not have that proviledge.
