Rock Star v. Playboy Model: Who Won?
Sharelle Thomas Presses Police Brutality Lawsuit Against Reinstated Cop
Breakfast reading from the Village Voice Empire: Thomas was celebrating her graduation from a Christian academy when she and three others were allegedly roughed up. Two cops were fired for lying about the incident, then reinstated -- but the lawsuit against them lives on. Westword has the story.

X10000000000000000000 Tim. Couldn't have said it better myself, I'll just add a couple of quick thoughts: 1: If you don't want to get roughed-up or man-handled by the police, you might not oughta do anything to warrant said roughing-up, just do what the officer says. 2: If I were a lawman, I would MUCH rather have a Glock pulled on me than one of these frackin cell-phone video cameras. A slug from a Glock might put your career on hold for a couple months while you heal, but a video (taken AFTER the suspect provoked use of force) will outright end your career. I am just glad to see these officers were reinstated. And Tim, additional props for taking the words out of my mouth about juries wanting tougher police then bitching when the police do try and get tougher. I don't look down on any police officer who has to use any level of force to make it him to his family after his tour. 1*

This story reminds me of a case of police brutality that happened in los angeles in the early 90s. I saw the documentary of the case and lawsuit. The video starts after the cops were beating a group of people that were face down trying to cover their faces. The video is shot from looking over a wall with audio. The first few seconds anyone could question that maybe the citizens did something for the police to use that force. After about a minute of watching the police stomp and wail on these people curled up in the fetal position you see a cop go to his car and radio in for backup cause they are being attacked and there is no control of the situation. he then goes back to beating on someone and the cops high five each other. The way that it was determined that the cops lied was when they matched up the radio call to the video and it told a different story.

"A lot of arrests are not pretty. There is fighting, people get hurt, bruises result, and so forth. But the vast majority of the time, it's not some cop on a powertrip" Tim you are right. On the flip side it only takes one shitty cop to ruin the reputation for all of them. Not all officers should be officers and all because they wear a badge doesn't make them respectable people.

I really wanted to see the video too... Would be a lot easier to form an opinion...

She was a nasty ass drunk in a place frequented by nasty ass drunks. She starts to be arrested by the officer and basically goes, "hey, hey, hey...motherfu fu fucker...I was joost assaulted in the bathroom by that bbbitch..don't you go be arresting me...go arrest her!!! Fuck!!!" Now we don't get that possible version...no, we get the "Journalist" who like everyone of these halfass pretend papers this site uses, wages war on cops with every article. They never met a use of force situation by the police that they didn't scream "POLICE BRUTALITY, ATTICA, ATTICA! We shall overcome, we shall overcome...FUCK the POLICE!" Now, why did the city chose to stab these officers in the back, to offer them up on the altar of Political Correctness? Because they are worried all the time about huge lawsuits going the way of these poor mistreated victims, by dumbass juries that want the police to keep the thugs in check, but get all ICKY when the cops have to get physical. A lot of arrests are not pretty. There is fighting, people get hurt, bruises result, and so forth. But the vast majority of the time, it's not some cop on a powertrip, hell, all you want to do is get home at the end of your shift and finish out your time to draw your pension.

The story keeps mentioning video - i'm kinda disappointed that we can't see it. So at the moment all we have is the girls' version of events - it would have helped to be able to see whether the video corroborates that version. Incidentally, i do believe those cops probably have delusion of grandeur issues, but if the video evidence was really that obvious surely there would have been criminal charges filed as well?

Ahhh.. I was reading about this last week when that story came out about the cops that got reinstated after this incident... they are also the ones that beat the shit out of that guy in the picture at the top. The sad fact is they were reinstated to start with, I personally hope she wins her suit.
