Sydney Spies Says High School Breaking Law By Banning Her Sexy Yearbook Photo
Breakfast reading from the Village Voice Empire: Spies says the flirty shot she submitted was initially approved, then rejected after administrators got an eyeful of it -- and a second image was nixed, too. She and her mom are considering legal action. Westword has the story.

If she wants to model, awesome. But a school yearbook is not the place for it. Save it for the Kim Dawson Agency or Playboy. The school has every right to refuse the picture because they have to adhere to an ethical code of conduct and it is in their rights to refuse publication of materials that they feel may degrade their credibility and austerity of the school. Don't forget that schools are run like businesses. There are rules, expectations, codes of conduct, and big whigs to deal with just like any business in competition with others. There's nothing worse than a parent incensed over school politics. This chick's mom por ejemplo. The real problem here isn't so much that her photo likely violates dress code, it's that her own family is fighting for merely vanity. I'm sure the last thing they worry about is how well she's doing in school. Were that the case, maybe they'd be submitting a pic of her in her grad gown flashing her class ring like half the other kids in her class I'm sure are. People like this girl and her parents seem to forget that their rights should not cross the boundaries of the public majority. If her picture is deemed obscene by the general viewer of the yearbook (staff, parents, other kids) then she is violating THEIR rights by forcing hers onto them and clearly all she is defending is her "right" to be vain and self-important.
AT least we'll have easy access to her 'before' implants shot since its all over the web now. Its so pathetic-she is 18(just) and thrusting her flat chest and ass out like a $5 whore. Boy, didn't her mom do a bang up job? What a lady!
1. This could all be eliminated across the board if high schools institute the policy that all photos will be cropped to head and shoulders shots.
2. If you want to show modeling pics in a yearbook, go before the asb and create a club called Future Models club. Get a teacher to sign on as an adviser and you get pages in the yearbook for it.
3. I think she got the attention that she wanted. Hope she can handle the aftermath.

Here is a link to the Colorado Student Expression Law.
I read in another story that a guy at the same exact school had a similar situation about a photo 2 years ago. He also ended up suing the school (and I think he lost). That would be while this lassie was at the school and would have known all about it. They probably submitted the pics on purpose, knowing what the outcome would be. I'm sure she thinks her Today interview is just the beginning of a long sweet Paris Hilton-like career.
The picture isnt exactly porn, i dont see why anybody would give a shit enough to actually ban it, on the other hand i dont see why this girl and her Mother care enough about it to sue. Its possibly the least important thing I can think of to worry about.
No but would you want your daughter scantily dressed for a yearbook picture. I really believe if we are going to teach our kids self respect, having them half dressed for school pictures is not the way...again imo
Ok you have me there My2, i think I would hit the roof if my daughter was such a little trout. Be years before I could find myself in this situation so only time will tell. Random late reply as I had a nice long weekend in Manchester.
Well when I say a nice long weekend, it was a bit too long for me. Had to stay with the in laws family over there and nights basically consisted of too much vodka and the bed I had to sleep on was like sleeping on a bed of nails so im not as well rested as I had hoped.
Morning Stanley, glad to hear you had such a lovely long weekend, we all need those once in a while.
Colorado has some strange law that prevents the school admin from interfering in their freedom of speech. That is why they actually could have grounds to sue. I think its hilarious as hell they are allowing it as a paid as which is exactly what it looks like....she is pimping herself out. Her mother is a complete airhead and idiot too.
Gotta get your advertising somewhere, this will give her a jump start on that porn career she might be interested in.
Since she is allowed to post this picture in her senior ad, I really dont see how they are interfering with her freedom of speech.
She is being a typical rich bitch, and threatening to sue because shes not getting her way. And the sad thing is that her mom supports her sluttyness.
On the plus side she doesnt have to change her name when she goes into porn.
See right there...the mom admitted having told her not to, she knew those weren't appropriate...so to me right there says... you have no place to sue anyone
I agree with you.
I think this is about whether or not the school administration had anything to do with the Yearbook Committee's decision to reject the pics [for her senior portrait] after they approved them. That goes against the Colorado Law [link posted below] - which I think is utterly ridiculous. For Christ's sake there has to be adults to govern and be responsible for what its students do and publish. In the interview with Matt Lauer, the mom admits she told her daughter not to submit those pics because she knew it would start problems. They knew what they were doing when they sent the pics in. They just wanted to push the issue and see how far they can take it because they know what is acceptable and what isn't. But yes, she is paying for it as she should and other students are doing the same.
They both seems like airheads, indeed.
But being an airhead is not illegal. The photo isn't overly naked. It's actually quite a decent photo. Good colour contrast, no focus on her private parts or anything. Maybe I just can't see what's wrong with it because I'm not American...
I agree with Stanley, though. It's not very important to worry about.
Not really. Seems many students pay $300. to have their ad/pics published in the yearbook as well.
That's kinda silly, though.
"No, missy, that's inappropriate for the school yearbook! Unless you pay us $300."
I didn't say being an airhead was illegal, and I can agree that the photos are quite nice. But they don't have a place in a school yearbook. But hey, she's getting it by paying. Isn't that all that matters, that she is going to get her pics published in the school yearbook?
I know right?! She said her photo was an expression of her personality, or something similar to that, ah...HELLO...if your personality is a sleeze bag, then yes. I think they should let her put it in the yearbook, she's the only one who will suffer from it in the future. =)
Shout out to Sydney.............Submit the shit to an actual modeling/talent agent. No one in your yearbook is hiring.Besides most modeling agencies require you to send in make-up free black and white pictures of yourself so they can see your natural features. .....OH and Get over yourself sweetie.
Personally if she is going for the "slutty do me now look" in her yearbook, let her have at it...geesh... I feel they are just looking for money. I'm kinda in agreement with Virgo...when did the yearbook become a platform for modeling pics... I hate bullshit lawsuits, but also I think the school should have not given any approval to start with. Granted she is a beautiful young lady but are all the students allowed to provide personal photos like this to the yearbook?
morning, my2. i didn't read the article here, b/c I'd already weighed in w/ my2 cents about it on another web site .... but if i recall correctly, the lawsuit is b/c the yearbook refuses to allow the stripper - pole - slut pic to be used as the young *ahem* lady's yearbook photo. the clueless parent(s) who raised this future kristen charbonneau are trying to force the yearbook to publish it.
Because Kristen Charbonneau disappeared on her own just to get some media attention and really isn't murdered by some nasty old guy? I'm sorry, Shade, but I don't get how Charbonneau's story is at all like this future double penetration, specializing in spit lubed anal barely legal porn princess' bullshit...enlighten me...
all right, i'll quit trying to draw any connections. it doesn't matter. and like i said about two posts ago, it probably was a bad idea to begin with.
You can say that shit all day long like I said before, Shade. But you are using Kristen Charbonneau as a poor example. I could careless when it comes to "what came first, the mental disease or drugs?"...I know that for a fact, my parents did everything and anything to raise two well adjusted young ladies, and the little one fell off.
If you'd have left Kristen out of the post, I would be with you, why you felt it had anything to do with a girl looking for fame and using the media, I don't know..but then you had to go there with drug use and and shit and it got more and more see thru...
I wonder how many "bi-polar" people end up that way b/c it's drug - induced? A fair amount from what I've read. And the families who love them think that they're helping by making excuses, etc., and often times that puts the person right in the grave. I have no ill will at all towards the unfortunate Ms. Charbonneau, or anyone like her. What I do have is my own opinion, which is that - irrespective of how much they're loved - if people like Ms. C are properly raised by attentive parents, which includes the setting of boundaries, etc., then those people grow up w/ self-respect. And I don't think people w/ self - respect end up doing drugs or stripping for a living. That doesn't mean I think they deserve it or are bad people. That's just my opinion about the cause and effect resulting from bad parenting. And I suspect that the same general thing has happened to the young woman in this story. I think she has not been instilled w/ a lot of good values, and I don't think she has much self-respect based on her choice of attire, and so it's not a large leap for me to believe that, having missed some extremely important building blocks in life, may well be in line for some hardships.
Shade, Kristen had a family that loved her, and she was Bipolar. I know that situation very very well. My sister is exactly the same, and thank God she never went missing while being on drugs, so you can sit on your high horse and spout off how to be appropriate and be perfect till the cows come home, (which happens here hourly so your in luck)...you seem to have mean spirited grudge toward that poor girls family. How sad.
okay, boo and shannie, it was probably a stretch and a bad idea. i certainly could've made my point simply by stating what i believe, which is this. based on her conduct and her mother's support, and their lack of awareness at the inappropriateness of this photo for the yearbook, i doubt that either of them are the kind of people who know about working hard and doing what it takes to succeed as a model / actress or anything else. i believe that mother and daughter are attempting to trade on this chick's obvious good looks, and i believe that with that sort of mentality she will most likely end up doing something much less glamorous than acting / modeling, such as stripping. i think a good parent would encourage different goals and behavior. i think that if ms. charbonneau had been raised by better parents, she would not have fallen into a world populated with drugs and weirdos, and perhaps she would be alive today.
Shade I don't disagree with wanting my daughter to achieve and have a respectful career. Why you brought a missing and prob dead stripper into the situation is what I want to know? Seems like horse shit to make that comparison. If the girl in this story wants to pursue modeling and acting go right ahead, one picture doesn't make her a stripper, it seems her goals are aimed a bit higher if you ask me. The whole yearbook , aclu, and lawsuit is bullshit publicity for everyone...You made a poor comparison, IMO. And an unfair one at that.
So you wanted to stir some shit by bringing up the sad case you posted on a year ago ? WTF?
So you're using Kristen Charbonneau to get attention for your comment the same way Bumble Bee Tits is using this yearbook pic "controversy" to get attention for her "modeling career"? And every walk of life has it's crime and drama...it's not exclusive to strippers...they just put themselves out there in a way most uptight people aren't comfortable with...but since you're just using Charbonneau for attention, stripper vs average joe crime stats probably don't matter any way...
okay, okay, shannie and boo, I wrote that knowing that it would stir some shit, which is kind of what I wanted. It's probably a pretty extreme view, but personally I think that if at 17 this is the kind of advanced sexuality a young woman will fight to put out in the world, memorialized forever in the yearbook, there are some serious issues surrounding her psychological well - being. And those issues, again, IMO, are the kind of thing that lead to things like stripping. And I am not saying there is anything whatsoever wrong w/ stripping, to each his own. I just think that a line of work such as that necessarily lends itself to exposure to lots of bad and creepy things, like perverts and drugs, more than being an accountant, for example. And if I was the parent, I would want my beautiful daughter to focus on her brains more, and reach for the stars. I'd want her to strive for dentistry, or law, or painting, or whatever; I think what we're seeing from this young woman doesn't bode well for her future.
WOW Shade really? Kristen Charbonneau? That poor girl is missing and so what if she was a stripper? I know you trolled that thread pretty hard and called her father a slew of fucked up shit, but why are you even comparing this young lady to a missing and prob murdered stripper?
See that's bullshit, this is not like a first amendment issue either. I believe the school has every right to not publish this picture.
You do know why the lawsuit in this case? Right? It's because it draws ALOT more attention to her pictures. It's called Pimping yourself out....(pun intended)
so it would appear... I'm thinking along the lines of if the picture doesn't adhere to the dress code of the school, then it shouldn't be allowed in the yearbook, not trying to sensor pictures, but makes it a level playing ground for all students.
