In Florida City, a dirt-poor town on the edge of the Everglades, Otis Wallace has been nicknamed "mayor for life" while ruling City Hall since the mid-1980s. He earned national acclaim for bringing his town back from the brink after Hurricane Andrew, but a two-month investigation by Miami New Times finds Wallace has become corrupt with power in the decades since. Not only has he been investigated by the FBI and local corruption detectives for allegedly flipping his vote for millions in land deals and orchestrating regular bribes, but it seems he recently used his town's police force to kick his own disabled sister out of their family's house. That's just cold. Miami New Times has the story.
