Breakfast reading from the Village Voice Empire: The cell dated back to the 1880s and was possibly the last of its kind in existence. The unit was so heavy that plenty of institutions turned down it down rather than moving it. But McNew and his squad of morons had a plan. Westword has the story.

So I sometimes watch Pawn Stars. And I'm always seeing people come in with old family heirlooms. Like their great great great etc grandfathers journal from when he was a soldier in the Revolutionary or Civil war, one guy brought in an olympic torch that he'd carried back in the 80's. I get that times are hard, I really do. But these folks weren't doing it to pay the rent or feed they kids. They'd say something like I wanna go on vacation. And that I just really don't get. WTH ever happened to passing that sort of thing down to your kid? This story reminded me of that. It pisses me off that a piece of history was not only stolen, but then broken down for scraps. It's sad that no one could be bothered to do something with it and it's gone. There's no getting it back and it kinda pisses me off.
