I have 3 yr old son, who is very active and unbalanced, like most children his age. He has taken quite a few falls, bumps to the head, etc, and we've never come close to him having a life threatening injury. For something like this to have happened, this child had to be severely mistreated. He should be charged with manslaughter, not child abuse.
This kid just went wrong in all places. He changed his story multiple times, he rearranged the furniture. But worse than all of that, he failed to call for immediate help. He called his mother first! It wasnt after some time that his mother called the babys mother, then the babys mother called for help. This 17yr old piece of crap should pay for what he did.
&& all of this just over a phone. Seriously.
THIS is why the baby died:
#1 - PUNCH IN CHEST (said he punched him HARD)/ FELL & HIT HEAD also HARD
knocked unconscious
#2 - try to revive by SHAKING SEVERAL TIMES; after which he suddenly went limp and unresponsive. (shaken baby syndrome/head-neck attachment/brain bleed, when shaken the brain will literally knock against the inside of the skull causing swelling, bleeding/torn spinal column at neck, we won't know until the autopsy comes out BUT YEAH, I'M PRETTY SURE THIS DIDN'T HELP AND A GOOD CHANCE IT WAS THE FATAL BLOW.

It's not ROCKET SCIENCE - don't punch the baby HARD in the chest (then falling and hitting head HARD is also bad (table/floor?) - FINALLY - DON'T SHAKE THE BABY.
This reminds me of that mexican guy who beat the hell out of his GF's toddler until he wouldn't wake up and then poured scalding hot water on him to REVIVE him. ??? and YES the baby died I think mostly from the burns.
I mean are we talking just the lowest IQ's in existence, people who got dropped on their heads when they were babies, WHAT?

I wouldnt let a 17 year old look after my kids. Yeh some are great babysitters I am sure but I can remember being that age and at that point the only thing I cared about was myself..just saying
Yeah, I have always basically felt that way, although, one time when our power was out during an ice storm, a couple who were friends of ours, said their son Evan could watch our little boy, who was 2, while we did something related to the ice, overnight!
Anyway, I was sooo nervous and just, I didn't want to do it; well his sister was there too and she was taking care of a little baby & I thought okay well she's here too (you know A GIRL). Well a few things kind of 'showed me the light' on my own ignorance. #1 the first thing I thought was sweet & relaxed me a bit, was happening to view through a doorway, Evan walk up to his mom and give her a big full bear hug that lasted a couple of minutes (it was her birthday) VERY sweet for a 17 yr old boy; showed kindness.#2 THEN watching his sister, she had the phone in one had & the baby slung over on her hip or something; she was very interested in her phone conversation, more than the baby.#3 While we were there, Evan sat down in the floor with our son, and his toys and started playing with him. Not just playing, but watching & allowing baby to 'lead' the activity.So, I said, OH I'll change his diaper before we leave, and Evan said NO that's okay, I'll do it & smiled. My son didn't even want to hug me goodbye!!! He was playing with a big boy. That moment is what made me feel totally at ease. He was TOTALLY FOCUSED on watching Keith. That night was going to be all about the baby, and it was plain to see. THAT is what you look for; interest, focus, kindness, gentle attitude, intelligence, patience, and common sense when someone is watching your one and only most precious thing on earth; your child!!FYI - this boy later received a package from Wal-Mart as he was setting off to college. It included stuff one might need, like a backpack & the stuff was inside there. So his mom thought, OH well, that's cool; and pulled out an envelope in the pack to read the letter; and the letter said that their son had been recommended to them due to his high grades, community service, outside activities (like scouts, in which he excelled) etc etc AND HERE'S A CHECK FOR $50,000 to pay for his school tuition. Could not have happened to nicer kid.

Glad to hear he has been rewarded for his kindness and maturity. I am sure there are others like Evan who would be able to take on that responsibility but I just dont know any of them. The only teenagers I know really are my partners cousins or possibly sisters and they most certainly wont be watching my kids ever, I can honestly say they are idiots and I dont trust them to look after themselves nevermind my pride and joy. I think your friends son was one in a million, a rare gem.

I don't know, I'm a little sexist when it comes to that. I babysat at that age, and I did a pretty good job of it. My daughter is about to turn twelve and she's going to be taking classes at the red cross that will help her learn how to do CPR the Heimlich Maneuver, etc. and also address how to handle a variety of situations. And once she finishes those I would be completely comfortable leaving my kids (ages 10 & 7) with her for a few hrs. (I might worry about leaving her with younger children though.) I'm just not sure that boys that age have the maturity level needed to get the job done right/ well. And I know that there are girls out there who aren't either... I guess the trick is really knowing who it is you are trusting your child with. (And that actually applies to all ages.)
There is something drummed into my mind that would make me think to trust a girl over a boy but in these times I am not so sure that is logical. Out of all the teenagers I know (which there arent many) the girls seem to be more idiotic than the boys. They just want to talk on their phones, post on facebook, plaster themselves in make up, bitch and fight with their siblings. The boys seem more relaxed although the group of teenagers I know arent a great example of children nowadays, they perhaps werent brought up in the best environment.

I noticed that too! These girls are smilng for the camera as if nothing happenned... A baby is dead and your brother faces prison, do you realize that??? It seems like a very disfunctional family.... Explains why this happenned in the first place.
Perhaps it was accidental as Jesus didn't know just how hard he was shaking the infant, however, you do not treat children this way. Put him in a time out, yes, kill him, no. Accident or not, this kid needs to get help but I don't think it's going to help as he already has gang affiliations. Maybe the best place for him is behind the bars.

Looking after a 2yo and a 4mo and you have time for facebook? No wonder the 2yo was rowdy, if he had no-one to play with.
Sounds very much like a typical 17yo in their own world where they themselves are the centre of the universe. More interested in his phone / fb than looking after boring little kids. Then when the kid tried to 'play' with what must obviously have been a very good toy for his 17yo cousin to be so engrossed in it, Jesus had a quite natural reaction of trying to make sure the little kid wouldn't break his phone or worse - post some horrible, untrue gossip on his fb page.
Where i'm starting to get worried is where Jesus is shaking the boy. To revive him?? If the kid took such an unfortunate fall that it knocked him out, wouldn't your first reaction be to be careful, not use him as a shake-weight?? And what's with all the different stories? Sure makes it sound like Jesus knew he did something wrong and was trying to cover it up, doesn't it?

Just to clarify - i don't think punching a kid is a normal reaction to get said kid away from your phone. I didn't realize Jesus had punched the little one, i thought he pushed him away, possibly a bit too hard, and the kid slipped off the couch and fell awkwardly - which i COULD see happening. If he really punched the kid, then it should be case and jail cell door closed.
