We used to breed Boxers, and because the breed is a fairly new breed, alot of inbreeding occurs. Recessive genes are common, and many times you wind up with an albino version of Boxer that is white. These usually are deaf or blind, have kidney and liver problems, mental retardation, and have an increased risk of developing cancerous tumors (something that "Healthy" Boxers are notorious for developing, half of our pet Boxers have died of cancer) These white Boxers are typically are "euthanized" due to the plethora of health problems they are destined to have, and the incredibly high cost of veterinary bills. This is considered "humane" I guess, however we never had the balls to do this. Luckily we never had a white Boxer born in all the litters we had. But we heard of the "euthanizing of white Boxers", and were horrified at the idea, and vowed to never do this. After dealing with several generations of Boxers, all of whom we loved as much as any family member, we learned the hard way that there are valid reasons for euthanizing a puppy, as horrible as it sounds. Finding someone willing to shoulder the burden of a sick and dying puppy is next to impossible, when people won't even rescue the poor dogs that are on death row in the pound, and those have no health issues. I think this lady is defending her actions based on this rationale. I am not even sure how I would "put down" a white Boxer if I had to, but drowning in the swimming pool is probably one of the more low class methods I've heard of. Honestly, I probably still couldn't bring myself to do it in any fashion, as they are awfully cute and hard to not fall in love with.
