I read the article, and I don't believe him. He could have gotten friends to help, family. If one call didn't work, there's others to call. He just left him up there, didn't even go back. I have a dog, and I know better. Fuck this guy!
I have a dog I love very much, that I have taken on many hikes, and I would never leave him behind unless I absolutely had no choice. Then, I would be right back up there the next day doing whatever I could in my fucking power to get him down. I call BULLSHIT!

I'd have carried her out myself before leaving her like that. But, I can believe it when he says he tried to get help but found no support. Many people, wouldn't bother for an animal.
His excuse is just BS. Even if he couldn't get some pros to help him, why not ask friends, family members or neighbors to help? Fucking jerk...
But form a rescue mission is exactly what the couple who found the dog after more than a week did. They couldn't get her down straightaway either, so also had to leave her on the mountain, but they went down and actually got their asses in gear, gathered a rescue party and went back up to get the dog. When it turned out she couldn't walk down herself because her paws were too sore, the people in the rescue party took turns carrying her in a backpack. Why didn't Ortolani try to go back up for his supposedly beloved dog after the storm passed?
I absolutely see where you are coming from, but I have a hard time seeing them forming a rescue party for an injured dog... don't get me wrong I would like to think I would have done more than he did.
I read about this before. This ass does NOT deserve the dog back. So he had to leave her up a mountain in extraordinary circumstances, fine. But he made NO attempt to go back for the dog afterwards. The people who found the pooch after she had spent 8 days up there alone also had to leave her behind, climbed back down, and straightaway organised a rescue mission. All Ortolani did was assume the dog was dead and search the internet for comments about a dead dog on the mountain to prove his assumption right. Well, you thought you'd lost her anyway, what gives you the idea that you somehow have a claim on this poor dog? You're not the one who went back up and carried her down in a backpack.
